Bush & tree mechanics

Bush mechanics are directly connected to view range and camouflage, and are just another layer on that mechanic.

Its important to not get carried away with this mechanic, your tank can still be spotted through bushes, even if 15m behind them, and especially if your tank has low camo rating.

  1. How bushes (and trees) work
  2. 15m bush rule
  3. Spotting through bushes
  4. Trees
  5. Vision vs transparent cover

How bushes (and trees) work

Use logic. If you can see your tank’s front/side/rear/top from a certain angle, then it will be visible to the enemy from that same angle.
All visibility mechanics in the game are based on this logic, if your tank can be “seen”, then you can be spotted.

-Bushes add 25 or 50% camouflage rating to your tank. It depends on bush density.

-The maximum camo you can receive from stacking bushes/trees is a total of 80%.

-Bushes do not give any camo rating bonus when you shoot.
(The camo bonus of the bush drops to 0% when you shoot)

-Bushes rely on visibility checkpoints to be hidden (from enemy line-of-sight) in order to give the camo bonus

15m bush rule

Bushes lose all effectiveness for a split second when you fire, this simulates the tank’s position being “exposed” by the sound of its gun and muzzle flash.

This only happens to bushes within a 15m radius of the tank, meaning you can move back 15m behind a bush, and it will continue to give that camouflage bonus to your tank.

How to know when you’re 15m behind a bush?
-Go into sniper mode and watch the bush, the moment it turns opaque, you’re 15m away. This is shown below.
-Alternatively you can use the range finder by pointing your tank’s gun at the base of the bush and then moving back until the rangefinder shows the number 15.

Spotting through bushes

To be able to “see” enemies with your tank’s view range through a bush, the bush has to be transparent.

You still gain the camouflage bonus from the bush (or tree), and you are able to spot the enemy tank.

If you pull back to the 15m point and the bush becomes opaque, it means you’re no longer spotting the enemy, and they will soon disappear from vision.

Trees

All vision mechanics in the game are based on a logical sense. Trees are the same, use logic to see if your tank gain’s a camo bonus. If you can see your tank from the front, then no, you aren’t getting a camo bonus.

You cannot hide behind a tree at its base while its still standing and expect to receive a camo rating bonus.

Trees must be felled in order to give your tank a camo bonus.
However there are 2 exceptions to this rule:

1: Short fir trees, with a low crown (the leafy bit), will give full camo bonus, as the tank can be hidden behind it.
2: You can gain a camo bonus from a standing tree, if you are above its crown (the leafy bit). Such as, if you’re on a hill, and there is a tree further down the hill and below you, the leaves from this tree will provide your tank with a camo bonus.

A tank , behind a narrow tree trunk, is still very easily visible.

The tree must be pushed down to give a camo bonus.

The only case where a standing tree gives a camo bonus, is if your tank is on a hill behind it.

Fir trees:
Some fir trees give camo bonus without needing to be felled, such as the small fir tree shown below.

The leaves come almost to the ground, and cover the front visibility checkpoints of the tank, allowing it to give a camo bonus to the tank while still standing.

Small fir tree with low crown gives bonus while still standing

This is a taller fir tree, the crown is far above the tank, so it doesn’t give a camo bonus unless you push it down.

Vision vs transparent cover

All tanks view range goes out in a radius of the tank, up to its maximum view range.

In below images, this vision radius (which is actually a sphere around the tank) is shown as a cone, to better highlight the effect of “soft cover”, such as fallen trees and bushes.

The red dots on the tank are its visibility checkpoints.

The image above shows the vision of a tank directly in front of the IS-7 and its tree. The tree gives the IS-7 a camo rating bonus, as against this particular enemy, all of its visibility checkpoints are covered.

The below image shows a different enemy’s vision, they are at a different angle compared to the first enemy.

The tree still covers the front of the tank, but the tank gets spotted due to its side, roof, and rear visibility checkpoints being pinged by the enemy.
