Improving aim

  1. Sniper mode
  2. Auto-aim
  3. Turning the gun to get on target

Sniper mode

Use sniper mode, it zooms in on the enemy and lets your aim be more accurate, especially over distances, or when shooting at small weakpoints.

Sniper mode is also the only way you can see enemy armour, not using sniper mode means that you won’t know what areas on the enemy tank are or aren’t penetrable.

Auto-aim

Auto-aim is a useful in-game aiming mechanic which automatically tracks tanks which auto-aim is activated on.

Mobile auto-aim:
Auto-aim on mobile is activated when you “look” at an enemy tank. You can tell its activated since your camera will follow that tank, and there’s a white rectangular outline over the enemy in sniper mode.

Mobile auto-aim can be “adjusted” when aimed on an enemy, so you can move your reticle to aim at a different part of the armour, and the auto-aim will still track that.

Mobile auto-aim essentially perfectly tracks the point on the enemy where you aim at, so if you’re aiming for a cupola, and the enemy is moving back and fourth, auto-aim still tracks the cupola.

-Mobile auto-aim does not automatically give lead when aiming at fast moving targets. You have to manually aim in front of the enemy using auto-aim, which will then continue to track that point on the moving enemy. Mobile auto-aim doesn’t automatically adjust when targets make a change of direction, and doesn’t account for enemy movement speed or your shell velocity.

-Mobile auto-aim can be turned off using a button toggle, this is useful for aiming at enemies who are hiding around a corner.

-Mobile auto-aim can be “dragged” off an enemy by just turning the camera away from them, this deactivates auto-aim and lets you turn the gun to aim at something else.

PC auto-aim:
Auto-aim on PC is very different to mobile auto-aim.

-Auto-aim on PC is locked. Once it is activated, you can’t “drag” it off the enemy to aim at something else, your gun will remain aimed at the auto-aimed target no matter what you do. Auto-aim can only be unlocked by pressing the keybind again (right-click by default)

-PC auto-aim only targets center-mass. So it locks on to the “middle” of the tank in all dimensions.

-Auto-aim on PC cannot be “adjusted”, you can’t aim the gun at a small weakpoint or a different part of the enemy armour and let auto-aim track it. When auto-aim is on, it just targets the center-mass of the enemy tank.

-PC auto-aim automatically gives lead to fast moving targets. It seems to account both for your movement speed, the enemy’s movement speed, and the shell speed, however its still not a reliable way to aim at moving targets, especially with lower velocity shells or at longer distances.
The auto-aim also automatically adjusts the lead needed when the target changes direction.

For mobile:
Auto-aim is a very useful aiming feature that you should use most of the time. Its very good at tracking weakpoints and hitting them consistently, and you can adjust your aim on that target accordingly.

There are situations where you may need to turn it off, such as when there are multiple enemies in one spot and you’re trying to hit the lowest HP enemy, or if the enemy is poking around hard cover to shoot you and the auto-aim follows the target into a wall.

For PC:
Auto-aim is less useful in PC, in the majority of situations, you should use manual aim. Due to having a (generally) larger screen, and more precise control over aim due to having a mouse, aiming manually is much better than using auto-aim.

There’s also the fact that PC auto-aim only tracks center-mass, so if you activate auto-aim on an enemy, and most of the tank is hidden behind cover, you won’t hit them. Similarly if the enemy has armour on the area that is center mass, you’ll just bounce off.

On PC devices, auto-aim is most useful when chasing an enemy and you need to focus on driving, or when running away from enemies, since auto-aim gives lead, and sometimes you don’t really have the chance to aim properly while driving.

Turning the gun to get on target

Sometimes you’ll need to turn the tank or turret to get your gun onto an enemy, this is often the case when a faster tank circles around you.

Always turn both the hull and turret. Fast tanks can almost always outrun your gun if you only turn the hull, or only turn the turret. Combining the 2 traverse speeds by turning both at once (in the same direction) makes it much easier for you to catch the enemy, and allows you to get the gun on target faster.
