Durability Provisions

These provisions improve the tank’s durability, making it more resilient to damage in battle.

  1. Protective Kit
  2. Sandbag Armour
  3. Spall Liner

Protective Kit

Protective Kit is a standard provision, every tank that can use provisions will have Protective Kit as an option.

There is 1 Protective Kit provision:

What benefits does it give?

+15% Crew Damage Protection
+10% faster module repair speed
-20% to chance of Engine fire
+10% Ammo rack and Fuel Tank Durability

What does each of these do?
+15% Crew Damage Protection makes your crew less likely to be injured when they get hit by a shot.

+10% faster module repair speed makes all modules repair faster. For example if your track repair time is 8 seconds, using Protective Kit makes it 7.2 seconds.

-20% to chance of Engine fire means that when your engine gets hit, the chance to be set on fire is reduced

+10% Ammo Rack and Fuel Tank Durability means that the Ammo Rack and Fuel Tanks are less likely to be damaged.

What tanks to use Protective Kit on?
If you are grinding a tank, will not buy much equipment for it, and it has weak modules, you should use Protective kit on that tank.

In all other cases, don’t use Protective Kit until you have played the tank for some battles to try out and see if it even needs this provision (because most tanks don’t).

The reason for this is that there is very little reason to use Protective kit over another provision, the only reason would be if your tank constantly gets crew or module damage.

There are 4 reasons you should first play the tank before wasting a provision slot on the Protective kit.
1: Improved Modules and Defense System Equipment do exactly what Protective Kit does, they give Crew and Module damage protection.
2: Toolbox Equipment does exactly what Protective Kit does, improving the Module repair speed.
3: Players usually take both Multi-Purpose Restoration Pack and Repair Kit consumables, so if modules or crew members do get damaged/injured, you can easily repair them. Again, consumable delivery system equipment will help you use these consumables more often.
4: If you have a high level Firefighting crew skill, you won’t even take module damage from a fire, and the HP damage you will receive is significantly reduced.

Don’t just listen to others who say “This tank has a weak ammo rack so you MUST use protective kit.” Since every player’s experience is different, when you play the tank you might not find that problem.

Try the tank in battle a few times first, then decide whether this provision is really needed.

Sandbag Armour

Sandbag Armour is a special provision, not every tank has these as an option.

There are 2 Sandbag Armour Provisions:
Sandbag Armour (3% Sandbag Armour)
Enhanced Sandbag armour (6% Sandbag Armour)

What benefits does it give?
3% Sandbag Armour gives:
+3% of base HP

6% Sandbag Armour gives:
+6% of base HP

What tanks to use Sandbag Armour on?
Every tank that has these provisions should use at least the 6% Sandbag Armour.
Extra HP is always helpful and is always worth taking over a smaller provision (such as 3% Food or Fuel). It also allows you to use Enhanced Armour Equipment while having the same HP bonus that Improved Assembly equipment gives.
The only exception would be the Skoda T56 since it has 2 full sets of special provisions, and it has to choose between them.

When to double stack 6% & 3% Sandbag Armour together?
This is not worth doing. While extra HP can be very useful, using the extra 3% Sandbag armour means you will have to sacrifice either 10% mobility by dropping Fuel, or 10% of Crew Skills by dropping Food.

If you want to have a large amount of HP on your tank, stack 6% Sandbag Armour with the Improved Assembly Equipment (which also gives 6% HP). Of course, this is at the expense of some armour thickness.

(Each tank review on the site will specify what kind of set-up would be best for each tank, since some do just benefit from having the HP, but others might be better with the armour. It will differ for each tank.)

Spall Liner

Spall is a special provision, not every tank has it as an option.

There is 1 Spall Liner provision:

What benefits does it give?
-20% Damage from HE-type shells

Why is this useful?
Most of the tanks that have this provision have no armour at all, front, sides, or rear.
This means they are prone to being shot at by HE, which will cause much higher damage than AP.

Using Spall Liner will basically completely mitigate the extra damage that HE causes (as most HE shells just do 20% more damage than AP). This makes your tank’s HP last longer and allows you to stay in the battle.

What tanks to use Spall Liner on?
Every tank that has this provision. So far Wargaming has only given it to lightly armoured tanks that are prone to being HE’d (mainly from the front).

The only exception could be the Conway, as that tank can’t be HE’d frontally (unless its premium HESH), compared to every other tank with this provision, which can be HE’d frontally.
