What does this mechanic do?
Nothing. This “mechanic” isn’t really even a mechanic. Its just a shell in the auto-reloader magazine with a long reload.
When is it useful?
This mechanic is never useful.
Since you can hardly ever actually use the shell during battle (since it just cripples your DPM), its not at all useful.
It doesn’t help the tank in any way, and auto-reloader guns with no reserve shell can perform just as well, if not better.
The only single situation where the reserve shell is useful, is if you are absolutely required to shoot it in order to win the game (a situation where, if you don’t shoot, then either you die, or the enemy goes on to win the battle).
