Armour

(The SU-100Y in the images is using Improved Assembly)

Drag slider Right -> to view 130mm AP
Drag slider <- Left to view 180m APCR

Armour on flat ground:
Upper plate 85mm
Upper angled plate 145mm
Lower plate 110-138mm

Superstructure cheeks 90mm
Gun mantlet 120-170mm

Armour vs all tier 5-7 tanks:
The SU-100Y’s armour is troll, not reliable.

Its front and sides are strong enough to stand up to most HE shells. Tanks like the Smasher or KV-2 are the most dangerous, as their damage is high, and have much higher penetration than most other tanks.

AP shells form tier 5-7 tanks will have no issue penetrating the frontal armour of the SU-100Y, but there are a few troll areas which may get bounces. These areas are the gun mantlet, the sharply angled upper plate, and the side armour (if the tank is angled).

This tank’s side armour is flat and quite long, so can be used in angling/wiggling to try and get more bounces. Its 63mm thick, which is decent at this tier.

Gun

The SU-100Y mounts a 130mm gun

Ammo Types:
Premium AP:
-Penetration 171mm, damage per shot 530, DPM 2133

Standard AP:
-Penetration 196mm, damage per shot 460, DPM 1851

-HE has 65mm penetration for 600 alpha

Estimated aim time is 4.4s/4.7s
Base aim time is 2.5s, but it can get down to 2.04s.
-Dispersion is 0.344/0.310
-Gun handling is 0.23/0.23/0.08, or 0.2/0.2/0.07 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -5 degrees
-Gun traverse arc is 10 degrees to the left, and 10 degrees to the right.

Overall this is a good gun. Its not very accurate or quick aiming for a TD, and doesn’t have impressive DPM, but its penetration and damage per shot are both devastating, and can easily deal with any enemy the tank faces.
The gun is fairly reliable in a sniping role, where it has time to aim in fully, but isn’t good at quickly snapping shots, due to poor gun handling and unimpressive aim time.

Mobility

-Top speed is 35km/h, reverse is -12km/h
-Traverse speed is 41.5 deg/s on hard terrain, and 38.5 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 16.3 hp/t, it has a strong 1041 horsepower engine for its 64 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 12.5 hp/t on hard terrain, and 11.6 hp/t on medium terrain.
Ground resistances are 1.3/1.4/1.9

Overall the SU-100Y has decent mobility. Its acceleration rate and top speed are both decent, though it struggles to pull back into cover as its very large and reverse speed is slow. The most impressive trait is the traverse speed, which lets the tank very easily switch targets, and helps it to not be circled by faster enemies.

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

SU-100Y has no special provisions/consumables.

Gun Rammer:
SU-100Y has very good penetration for tier 6, and doesn’t struggle to penetrate enemies that it faces, so it doesn’t need to use calibrated shells.

Its far better to use gun rammer, as the SU-100Y has a slow reload, and can sometimes struggle to get damage out due to this. Gun rammer will increase the DPM by 130-150 on both AP shells, and lower the reload from 16s to 14.9s.

Improved Modules:
The SU-100Y is the 3rd heaviest tank in tiers 5-6, after the TOG II* and Blasteroid. It weighs 63.9 tons, and if given the chance, can easily ram any enemy it faces.

Improved modules are useful for this, as it decreases the amount of damage you take when ramming an enemy.

Camouflage Net:
SU-100Y has a sniper playstyle, and it needs good camo rating to remain hidden and not take hits on its weak and large armour profile. With a camo net, camo paint, and a level 7 camouflage crew skill, the SU-100Y has 53% camouflage while stationary, 39% while moving, and 12% after shooting.

Improved Assembly:
The SU-100Y has not got any decent armour worth enhancing, its better to increase the tank’s HP.

Improved assembly would increase this tank’s 900 base HP up to 954 HP.

Vertical Stabilizer:
The dispersion of the SU-100Y is already decent for the alpha damage that it has. Its more useful to the tank to improve its gun handling, since  the tank doesn’t lack accuracy and often will need to play a more active role towards the end of the battle. The stabilizer helps the tank to retain more of its accuracy when moving, which is very helpful for a tank like the SU-100Y, which lacks a turret and has high traverse speed.

Gameplay advice

SU-100Y has a very awkward style of gameplay due to its large size, poor gun depression, weak armour, and long reload. Its a sniping TD, but is sometimes required to play more of a support role due to its high alpha and less-than-ideal accuracy.

General gameplay:
Start the game by loading premium ammo, this should be the main ammo you use in battle. Next take a sniper position, ideally choose a large bush close to hard cover (such as buildings or a rock). This is necessary as the SU-100Y is extremely large, with weak armour and mediocre camo rating. If you get spotted, you need cover to be able to immediately retreat and save your HP.

Later in the battle, you may have to push up to the 2nd line to support allies. You’ll be closer to the enemies, so it will be harder to avoid damage, so try to use pee-a-boom tactics. Only expose your tank when the gun is reloaded, shoot, then pull back into cover and reload, then repeat that process.

Try to minimize the damage you take, its better to try and face enemies with low alpha, and don’t expose the tank to high alpha enemies (such as KV-2, or even KV-1S).

Your tank can take out half of a same tier enemy’s HP, but you also don’t have much HP to take hits with, and the armour is weak. Avoiding damage is the best option, but if you can, try to trade damage against low alpha tanks.

Use premium AP:
Premium AP is your primary shell in battle. This should be the shell that you load as soon as the battle starts. It has higher damage, but less penetration; this works in the same way as other tanks’ standard ammo, higher damage, lower penetration.

Your standard ammo should be used in the same way other tanks use premium ammo, since its penetration is higher, but damage is lower.

HE is not useful in many situations, as its penetration is low, and its not as reliable of a shell compared to AP. Its alpha damage is not that much higher than premium AP, so its only really useful for crucial, game-winning shots against enemies with around 600 HP and very little armour.

Wiggle the armour:
If enemies are aiming at you and you’re put in the open with no cover, turn the hull left/right erratically to make it harder for enemies to aim at your weak armour.

The SU-100Y is large and has weak armour, but if constantly turning, it can be quite easy to get enemies to bounce, as there are multiple troll areas of armour. The gun mantlet, superstructure and hull sides, and the well-angled area of the upper plate are all easy to bounce off, especially when the tank is constantly moving.

Fully aim shots:
Though the accuracy of the SU-100Y is decent relative to its alpha damage, its still not accurate by TD standards, and the aim time is quite significant. The reload timer is also long, so every shot you miss is taking away 25% of your tank’s DPM.

Its worth aiming in each shot properly to make sure that they penetrate, as missing would put you on a 15s timer where you’re defenceless and can’t do anything.

SU-100Y is a sniper and support TD. It starts out by sniping from a concealed location, but later in the battle it can use its mobility and devastating gun in a support role with allies. Always load premium AP, since that’s the primary ammo type, standard AP should only be used if you can’t penetrate using premium AP.

Overall

Armour – 4.5/10
Gun – 6/10
Mobility – 7/10
Speed – 4.5/10

SU-100Y is overall a good tank.

Armour is decent, its not easily HE-able from the front, and there are multiple troll areas that can get bounces. Side HE protection is very poor against high-calibre rounds.
Gun has decent DPM, aim time, and accuracy. Gun handling and gun depression are poor, but both penetration and alpha damage are high.
Mobility is good, acceleration isn’t high but is decent, hull traverse speed is very impressive for a TD, but reverse speed is slow.
Speed is mediocre for a TD, at 35km/h.

SU-100Y is a devastating but not effective tank. The large size and mediocre camo rating, along with weak armour to AP, long reload and poor gun depression, make it a very awkward tank to play.
Its damage with each shot is extremely dangerous, able to easily take out half of a tier 6 tank’s HP, with no issues penetrating; however the awkward gun platform causes it to be hard to consistently deal this damage.

Is it worth getting?

The SU-100Y is a fun and very unique tier 6 tank, however, as stated above, its awkwardness causes it to be hard to play in an effective and consistent way.

SU-100Y is worth getting if you just want a fun tank to play. Its huge damage is extremely devastating to any enemy in its tier, and means it can be quite fun to play. It also has good ramming capabilities, and can be very effective in fun modes such as Mad Games.

This tank is not worth getting if you want to constantly be winning big damage games and get a good winrate, as its just not a reliable tank.

The SU-100Y is worth 3,000 gold. Its a decent and fun vehicle overall, but not highly effective or consistent.
