Vulcan

Vulcan is a tier 7 hybrid nation tank. It has great mobility and a decent 350 alpha gun. It has essentially no frontal weakpoint to lower tier enemies, but its armour is poor against higher tier enemies.

Armour

vs 175mm AP
-Upper plate 170mm
-Lower plate 200mm (weakpoint 150mm)

-Turret 175mm (weakpoint 140mm)

vs 175mm AP
-Do not angle the Vulcan, the armour is strongest when flat.
-The sides are not uniform in shape so it presents a large weakpoint when angling.

This is taking into account you use Enhanced armour on the tank, as it is necessary

VS tier 6:
When in a top tier battle and facing tier 6 enemies, the Vulcan will be very strong. No HT, MT, or LT will be able to penetrate it, and even if using premium ammo some of them will struggle.

VS tier 7:
Facing tier 7 enemies, the Vulcan will be strong against most standard ammo. The only tanks (that aren’t TDs) with enough penetration to reliable penetrate the Vulcan are German and American HT. Other HT, MT and LT will still struggle to penetrate this tank unless they use premium ammo.

VS tier 8:
-In tier 8 battles, play the Vulcan as though it has no armour. Other than low penetration MT and LT with under 180mm of pen, the Vulcan won’t bounce many shells in tier 8.

The Vulcan does have the highest HP in tier 7, sitting at 1650 base. Using equipment this goes up to 1749, as much as tier 8 heavy tanks.

Gun

The Vulcan mounts a 110mm gun
-Reload time is 10.9s and damage is 350, giving it 1918 DPM
-Penetration is 180/220/60 on AP, APCR, and HE
-Aim time is 4.9s/5.3s and dispersion is 0.398/0.359 depending on equipment.
Gun handling is below average for its alpha, having 0.24/0.24/0.12, with vertical stabilizer it can go down to 0.2/0.2/0.1
-Gun depression is -6, which is poor when coupled with its tall profile.

The gun is decent, it has good aim time for its alpha, but its countered by bad gun handling. DPM and pen are both average.

Mobility

-Top speed is good at 36km/h, reverse speed is -12km/h
-Acceleration is very good with 14.8hp/t on hard terrain and 12hp/t on medium terrain.
-Traverse speed also great, at 41.5 deg/s on hard terrain, and 33.8 deg/s on medium terrain.
Terrain resistances are fairly average at 1.1/1.4/1.8

Overall this mobility is very impressive. While the top speed is just slightly above average, the traverse speed and high acceleration allow the Vulcan to maintain speed very well. Its able to easily get around and position itself due to its very strong engine.

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

Vulcan has no special consumables/provisions

Vertical Stabilizer:
Due to having terrible gun handling, the Vulcan needs to use vertical stabilizer to improve it. This is a close range heavy tank, so it will constantly be moving, if the gun isnt well stabilized it will me much easier to miss shots.

Enhanced armour:
The Vulcan already has the most HP in tier 7, there is not much reason to use improved assembly to give it more. Using enhanced armour will improve the upper plate armour from being 170mm thick to being 178mm thick. The turret will improve from 175mm to 182mm.
This makes a big difference as there are many tier 7 guns that have between 170-180mm of penetration, using enhanced armour means it will be much easier to bounce those tanks.
See the image below for the difference.

Gameplay advice

When top tier against tier 6-7 tanks, the Vulcan can be played on the front line and played aggressively. Its armour will hold up to most enemies it encounters, and its got great mobility to get around.
When bottom tier against tier 7-8 tanks, play more as a support heavy tank, staying behind allied heavies with better armour and only taking hits when needed. In tier 8 battles, you don’t have armour, your high HP is your armour, so play more carefully.

Going hulldown or using gun depression really won’t benefit the Vulcan, the turret is just as strong as the upper plate, and the lower plate is stronger than both.
Angling won’t help either, as it exposes a weakpoint. Just keep the tank head-on to enemies, continuously wiggle the tracks so that it makes it more likely for enemies to bounce.

Overall

Vulcan is a tank that is not consistent in gameplay.
Sometimes the tank will feel like an absolute beast, bludgeoning its way through enemy tier 6 and 7 tanks that can’t penetrate it because they have less than 180mm of penetration.
Other times it will feel like a slow medium tank, being penetrated by every T29 and Tiger 1 you face, not to mention the tier 8 tanks.

Whether the armour is good or not really depends on who you fight, so its not as consistent as other tanks that have a typical recipe of “weak lower plate/strong upper plate and turret”.

The gun is decent, and mobility is superb. The Vulcan is one of the most mobile tier 7 heavies and you can really feel it when you play the tank.

Is it worth getting?

The Vulcan is a decent tank overall, being basically op against tier 6 tanks, but having no armour against tier 8s; it comes out as being an ok tank.
However, due to this inconsistency in gameplay it wont be the easiest to play, and many players won’t enjoy having no armour against tier 8 tanks.
The tank is never sold for gold and can only be bought with real currency.
