AC Pleione

Last updated on 26 January, 2025.

AC Pleione is a tier 8 Hybrid Nation heavy tank. It features good overall armour, however its guns are both low alpha, and the mobility is sluggish. It can mount 2 guns, a cyclic gun with 240 alpha, or a gun with 2 bursts of 3 shells that do 360 damage in total.

Armour

(The Pleione in the images is using Improved Assembly)

Drag slider right -> to view 225mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 265mm APCR

Armour when facing head on:
Upper plate 610mm (auto-ricochet)
Driver viewport weakpoint 130mm
Lower plate 160mm
Lower-lower plate 320mm

Lower turret 270mm
Upper turret 500mm
Periscope weakpoint 130mm

Side armour:
Hull side armour is 120mm, despite visually having sideskirts, there is no spaced armour on the hull side.
Overall its quite strong side armour, good at angling and sidescraping.

vs 225mm AP (top image), 265mm APCR (bottom image)
Using -8 gun depression:

Upper plate 1150mm (auto-ricochet)
Driver viewport weakpoint 130mm
Lower turret 287mm
Upper turret 630mm
Periscope weakpoint 130mm

Armour Performance:

Strong areas:
-The upper plate is very well-angled and strong, though with a weakpoint in its center.

-The turret is quite strong, able to bounce all standard ammo from tier 7-9 tanks.

-The hull sides are strong when angled or used in sidescraping, with no weakpoints.

Main weakpoints:
-The lower plate is extremely weak, and can’t be angled to bounce shots. Its also quite large compared to the upper plate area.

-The turret cheeks are penetrable only to very high penetration tier 8 premium ammo, or tier 9 tanks using premium ammo.

-The small periscope viewport is a weakpoint penetrable by all enemies.

Cyclic 240 alpha gun

This gun is a 90mm in caliber.

Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/APCR/HE.
-Penetration: 222/270/45mm.
-Damage: 240/200/300
-Reload time: 6.2s
-DPM: 2447

Handling:
Estimated aim time is 3.4/3.6s
Base aim time is 2.3s, but it can get down to 1.81s.
-Dispersion is 0.343/0.291
Gun handling is 0.18/0.18/0.12, or 0.16/0.16/0.11 with Vertical Stabilizer.

Usability:
-Shell velocities are 900/1300/700 m/s.
-Gun depression is -8 degrees around the entire tank.

Overall this gun is pretty good. It has good DPM with decent alpha damage gun depression. Its accuracy is unimpressive, but its made up for by decent gun handling and aim time.
Its quite similar to the T26E5’s gun, just with some slight different stats.

3×2 Burst Autoloader gun

This gun is a 90mm autoloader with 2 x 3-shot bursts.

Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/APCR/HE.
-Penetration: 222/270/45mm.
-Reload time: 6.2s
-DPM: 2127

Burst fire:
-2 shots in the magazine.
-3 shells per shot/burst.
-0.25s intra-burst reload.
-3.00s intra-clip reload
-Damage per 1 burst: 180/150/270
-(Damage per single hit 60/50/90)
-Total damage per magazine: 360/300/540

Handling:
Estimated aim time is 2.9/3.1s
Base aim time is 2s, but it can get down to 1.56s.

Overall this gun is very weak for tier 8 and hard to use. It can occasionally perform decently, but the autoloader and bursts add extra (unnecessary) steps to dealing damage.
Instead of just dealing full damage per click (when you shoot), the damage is split into 6 separate shots, so more chances to miss. On top of this, your intra-clip reload is slow for how little damage you have.
While the magazine reload is very quick, its not that useful, as only doing 1 burst is not much damage, and the intra-clip reload is quite slow. The DPM for such a gun is not impressive either.

Mobility

Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 36km/h.
-Reverse speed is -14km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 14.4 hp/t.
-Engine power is 776hp for its 54 ton weight.

Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 14.4 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 32.7 deg/s.

Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 9.6 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 21.8 deg/s.

Terrain resistance stats:
Terrain resistances are 1/1.5/2

Pleione has a decent top speed & reverse speed, and is decently mobile on hard terrain. However, the terrible medium terrain resistance causes the tank to be much less mobile when going off-road, losing roughly 33% of its mobility performance and becoming very sluggish.

Equipment Loadout

Calibrated Shells – Autoloader gun
The autoloader gun should use calibrated shells to maximise its chances of penetrating enemy armour with each burst, and minimize the chances of bouncing or needing to use premium ammo. At the damage of this gun is already very low, any bounce or premium ammo use greatly harms the damage potential of this gun.

Calibrated shells would increase penetration on AP from 222mm to 240mm, on APCR from 270mm to 284mm, and on HE from 44mm to 49mm.

Improved Ventilation– Cyclic gun
This gun has more of an argument to use vents, as its much easier to get damage out due to its DPM being decent, and not dealing its damage over 6 shells. Vents help this gun by improving many crucial areas in small amounts, but the main reason to use it is to take advantage of the quicker reload time and better DPM.
(Calibrated shells are still a very valid option with this gun, but vents work a lot better with this gun than on the autoloader gun.)

Improved Assembly:
Enhanced armour’s main use on this tank is to make the turret front stronger against tier 8 HT premium ammo (especially 260-265mm AP, 265-275mm APCR, 270-285mm HEAT), however

Its better to use improved assembly, which would increase the tank’s base HP from 1800 to 1872.

Refined Gun:
Due to having decent aim time on both guns, and good gun handling, using refined gun works well, due to both guns having quite low alpha but unimpressive dispersion of 0.343. Refined gun would reduce the dispersion down to 0.291.

Gameplay with 3×2 autoloader

It’s really not worth using the 3×2 autoloader gun on this tank due to its limitations. The 240 alpha single-shot gun is a much more reliable and consistent choice.

General gameplay:
In general, the most important thing for this gun is to know your limitations when fighting enemies.

Its worth remembering that your damage is very low, you do 3×60 damage, twice. There is a high chance of missing or bouncing enemies if they are at range or have some armour.

Note the slow 3s intra-clip reload of your tank, and if you try to damage trade with an enemy, you must account for that intra-clip reload. If you only do 1 burst, even if all 3 shots in that burst manage to do damage, its still only 180 damage.
At tier 8, all tanks have higher alpha damage than 180, so you must make sure you trade full magazines, or you will always lose HP trades.

Gameplay with single-shot gun

With this gun, the gameplay is like a more average heavy, but instead of high alpha, you have a fast reload with lower alpha.

General gameplay:
Overall just play the tank like you would with any other heavy, hide the lower plate whenever possible, use gun depression positions to increase the turret armour, and trade in DPM.

Note that your 5.7-5.9s reload is much faster than most other tier 8 heavy tanks, as most have 310-400 alpha damage, so against most enemies you can easily put in 2 shots for every 1 time they shoot you.

Stay on hard terrain:
Due to the massive difference in terrain resistance of this tank (1 -> 1.5 from hard to medium terrain), its important to stay on roads & paved/concrete areas, which are hard terrain.

The most common terrain type in game is medium terrain, which is any area that’s not paved, not a road, and not water. Driving on this makes you lose roughly 33% of your traverse speed and your acceleration rate, making the tank much slower.

Sidescrape:
The AC Pleione is one of the best sidescraping tanks in tier 8, due to its very strong 120mm sides with no protruding side weakpoints. You should try do this wherever possible, as enemies will either bounce off your armour, or be forced to use premium ammo to try penetrate the turret front (lowering their damage).

In this image the penetration is 265mm APCR, yet the turret is still only a roughly 50/50 penetration, and the track wheel can’t be penetrated.

Overall

Armour – 6/10
Single-shot gun – 6/10
Burst gun – 3/10
Mobility – 3/10
Speed – 5.5/10

AC Pleione is overall an average/mediocre tank.

Armour gets a 6 rating purely because its “average” with the added benefit of very good side armour. Typical armour with weak lower plate & strong turret/upper plate.
Single-shot gun
gets a 6 rating for good DPM & gun handling. Penetration & aim time are average with unimpressive dispersion, and alpha damage is fairly low at 240.
Burst damage gun gets a 3 rating for low DPM, slow intra-clip, and very low alpha damage. The probability of missing or bouncing is high, reducing your damage further.
Mobility gets a 3 rating for having terrible medium terrain mobility (the most common terrain), despite being decently mobile on hard terrain; and average reverse speed for HT.
Speed gets a 5.5 for being about average for its armour, at 36km/h.

Is it worth getting?

AC Pleione isn’t worth getting.
With the 240 alpha single-shot gun, its at best an “average” heavy tank. It has nice DPM in exchange for low alpha, and it has horrible mobility in exchange for reliable armour.
It’s not worth buying this tank for the 3×2 burst autoloader, as its performance is far below what is needed for a tier 8 tank.

The AC Pleione is worth 5,000 gold. Its not a tank with any special or unique traits that make it worth playing over other tanks. If you want a tank with 240 alpha, good DPM, & good gun handling, you could get T26E5. The autoloader gun on the AC Pleione isn’t even worth playing.
