The Avenir is the 3rd clan reward tank, its essentially a Bat.-Châtillon 25 t that’s been moved down to tier 9. It has great mobility & a great gun with faster intra-clip than the tech tree Bat-Chat. It also lacks armour due to being a light tank.

Armour
(The Avenir in the images is using Improved Assembly)

Drag slider right -> to view 250mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 53mm HE
When flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 135-145mm
Lower plate 60mm
Turret face 90-130mm
Cupola 45-65mm
Side armour:
Hull side armour is 40mm. It decent when angled against lower penetration HE rounds, but higher penetration HE can penetrate the sides at most angles fairly easily.
Armour vs all tier 9-10 tanks:
Avenir is a light tank, and its armour is almost identical to the tier 10 BC 25 t. Its easily penetrable to all standard ammo, though its frontal armour is quite HE resistant.
The side profile is fairly large and easy to HE. As a light tank this is just fairly normal armour.
(Its important to note that the Avenir does not have spall liner unlike the tech tree BC 25 t and BC 25 t AP, this means it will take full HE damage if it gets penetrated by HE shells.)
Gun
The Avenir mounts a 105mm autoloader gun.
Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/APCR/HE.
-Penetration: 225/266/53mm.
-Alpha damage: 310/260/440.
-3 shells in the magazine.
-2.40s intra-clip reload.
-930 damage in a 4.8s burst.
-Reload time is 16.2s for a total of 2657 DPM.
Handling:
–Estimated aim time is 2.8/3.0s
–Base aim time is 1.82, but it can get down to 1.40s
-Dispersion is 0.344/0.292
–Gun handling is 0.12/0.12/0.1, or 0.1/0.1/0.09 with Vertical Stabilizer.
Usability:
-Shell velocities are 1040/1240/945 m/s.
-Gun depression is -6 degrees around the entire tank.
Overall this is a great gun, it has great aim time & gun handling, with good DPM & intra-clip reload. Shell velocities are also great. Dispersion is poor for a light tank, but not unusable and its compensated for by other gun aspects. Penetration is also below-average, but also still usable.
Mobility
Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 62km/h.
-Reverse speed is -22km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 27.2 hp/t.
-Engine power is 627hp for its 23 ton weight.
Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 34.0 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 66.0 deg/s.
Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 27.2 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 52.8 deg/s.
Terrain resistance stats:
–Terrain resistances are 0.8/1/1.4
Overall this is good mobility. While the Avenir has below average top speed and traverse speed, it makes up for it by having much better acceleration than other tier 9 light tanks, allowing the Avenir to easily maintain its top speed constantly.
One poor aspect not usually noticed is turret traverse speed. On the Avenir its really slow, only 39 degrees/s, which is very poor for a light tank. A fast turning turret lets you move around while tracking the gun on enemies, so the slower traverse limits the Avenir in many cases.
Equipment, provisions, & consumables
The Avenir has no special provisions or consumables.
Improved Ventilation/Calibrated Shells:
Avenir can use either of these equipment pieces and do well.
Calibrated shells work since the Avenir is an autoloader light tank, and delivering its burst damage effectively is vital to its gameplay. Calibrated shells improve penetration and will let the Avenir penetrate more targets and need premium ammo less often, making its burst damage more effective in many cases.
Calibrated shells increases the penetration on AP from 225mm to 243mm, APCR from 266mm to 279mm, and HE from 53mm to 57mm.
Improved Assembly:
As Avenir is a light tank, it has no armour to need enhancing, so it just doesn’t benefit from it.
Use improved assembly instead, which will help the durability of the tank (especially as Avenir lacks spall liner). Avenir has 50 more HP than most light tanks in tier 9. Improved assembly would increase the HP from 1650 to 1716.
Vertical Stabilizer:
Due to the tank’s good gun handling and unimpressive dispersion, Avenir works well using refined gun. The better dispersion will help a lot as the Avenir is a light tank, and sometimes takes snapshots on the move or without aiming.
Vertical stabilizer isn’t needed as the tank already has good gun handling.
Gameplay advice
Avenir has typical French autoloader light tank gameplay, it plays almost identically to a B-C 25 t. It has some differences in stats, but features the same overall gameplay as any French light tank.
General gameplay:
Start the battle by scouting or taking a position where you can get early shots on enemies which are getting into position. Usually this works best on the MT side of the map where the terrain is more favourable and open for light tanks.
Avoid head-on fights and one-on-ones, since the Avenir is an autoloader light and can’t compete with the sustained reload and stronger armour of most enemies it faces. Ambush enemies by using your mobility and camo rating, then burst your 3 shots and run away to reload. This way you get the maximum damage out while being exposed for less time.
Try to conserve your HP and play more carefully towards the beginning of the game. Where autoloaders and light tanks can really carry the battle is the late game stage, where the mobility and burst damage become very powerful assets to win a battle.
Be wary of enemy HE:
Unlike the tech tree French light tanks, Avenir has no spall liner. It has to be more cautions against any tanks firing HE, but especially against tanks such as the FV215b 183.
Try to avoid engaging such enemies if you think they are reloaded, since HE penetrations will shred your HP very quickly. Avenir’s frontal amour will resist most HE (not HESH), so that can help to save some of your HP.
Use HE where possible:
Due to the Avenir having amazing HE damage, try to use it wherever possible. It greatly increases the tank’s damage output, dealing 440 damage per shot instead of the usual 310 on AP.
Using a full magazine of this HE can even clip-out lightly armoured tier 8 TDs and light tanks, since the average burst damage increases from 930 on AP to 1,320 with HE.
Overall Avenir just plays a standard autoloader light tank role, using its magazine to deal damage and trade, and using the great mobility to hide while on reload and relocate around the map.
Tank gameplay:
Overall
Armour – 4/10
Gun – 6/10
Mobility – 6/10
Speed – 5/10
Avenir is overall a good tank.
Armour is poor, typical for a light tank. Frontal HE resistance is good, but side and rear have poor HE protection. The tank has no spaced armour
Gun is great, with with fast intra-clip, fast aim time, good DPM, decent penetration, good burst damage, gun handling, & reload time. However, accuracy is mediocre, and gun depression is also a mediocre -6 degrees.
Mobility is good, it has a strong engine, with great effective acceleration rate and pretty good traverse speed. Reverse speed is decent at -22km/h, but turret traverse rate is fairly slow for a LT.
Speed is slightly below average at 62km/h.
Is it worth getting?
The Avenir is worth getting, its easily obtainable for free in the 4th clan event, and its a pretty good tank. Avenir has impressive DPM and a quick intra-clip, along with the best acceleration of any tier 9 light tank, and is an enjoyable tank if you like fast autoloaders.
The Avenir is not unique, since AMX 13 90, B-C 25 t AP, and B-C 25 t all play in essentially the same way. While it does have a faster intra-clip reload and great mobility, it does trade out the special consumables that the tech tree tanks have. From this standpoint its not special, however the Avenir can be sold for 5,000 gold if you don’t want to keep it.
The Avenir is worth 11,000 gold. Its a good tank and it can perform a very dangerous role in battle, just like the tech tree tanks. However its gameplay is not unique, and it doesn’t have any massive advantage over its tech tree counterpart.
Avenir is definitely not new-player friendly, and will be very challenging to play for less experienced players due to its light tank & autoloader gameplay.
