Drag slider <- left to view 240mm APCR
Armour when facing head on:
Upper-upper plate 280mm (auto-ricochet)
Upper plate 190-195mm
Lower plate 160mm
Turret cheeks 380
Weakpoint under mantlet 160mm
Gun mantlet 230mm
Cupola 75-130mm
Side armour:
The side armour of this tank is 55mm behind the tracks, and 65mm above the tracks, with a few plates of 10mm spaced armour.
Overall the side armour of the tank isn’t effective but can resist most small & mid caliber HE rounds.
Armour vs tier 7:
Facing tier 7 enemies, the Biter has decent hull armour. Its upper plate can resist a fair few shells from mediums, and even some heavies if it is angled slightly.
The turret is very strong, and only the cupola and weakpoint under the gun mantlet will be penetrable to tier 7s.
Armour vs tier 8-9:
Against tier 8-9 tanks, the hull armour is generally unreliable. You may be able to bounce occasional shots off the upper plate from lower penetration enemies, or get some lucky auto-ricochets, but mostly the hull can’t be relied on.
The turret is reliable against most standard ammo. The edges of the gun mantlet can be penetrated by premium ammo of higher-penetration tanks, however due to being spaced armour, it will still be quite troll, especially due to the turret shape.
Gun
The Biter mounts a 76mm gun.
Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/HEAT/HE.
-Penetration: 177/250/48mm.
-Alpha damage: 150/130/190
-Shell 1: 5.43s
-Shell 2: 3.40s (+1.50s)
-Shell 3: 3.17s (+1.50s)
-Shell 4: 2.94s (+1.50s)
-Shell 5: 2.72s (+1.50s)
-Reload time from empty: 17.66s
-Magazine potential: 750
Best DPM:
-Shell 5
-Reload: 2.72+1.50s = 4.22s
-DPM: 2132
Handling:
–Estimated aim time is 3.1/3.3s
–Base aim time is 1.9s, but it can get down to 1.48s.
-Dispersion is 0.335/0.285
–Gun handling is 0.16/0.16/0.11, or 0.14/0.14/0.1 with Vertical Stabilizer.
Usability:
-Shell velocities are 890/780/710 m/s.
-Gun depression is -6 degrees around the entire tank.
Overall this gun isn’t amazing. It has very low alpha for tier 8 (in fact less than nearly all tier 7 & 6 tanks as well), and its accuracy/gun handling are certainly not impressive for such low alpha. Penetration is low on standard ammo, usable on premium, but still not great, and the gun depression is awkward.
The main redeeming factor of this gun is the flexibility it has, 5 shells is a lot, and it means you almost always have a few shells to shoot no matter what the situation is. Low alpha is a downside but it also means you reload very quickly, making it easy to respond as situations change.
Mobility
Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 58km/h.
-Reverse speed is -22km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 21.3 hp/t.
-Engine power is 1001hp for its 47 ton weight.
Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 21.3 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 47.2 deg/s.
Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 17.8 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 39.3 deg/s.
Terrain resistance stats:
–Terrain resistances are 1/1.2/1.4
Overall this mobility is fairly unimpressive. Its not bad at all, as the top speed and reverse speed are both above-average, with good acceleration rate.
The main issue is that slow hull traverse on both medium and hard terrain drastically reduce your speed when turning corners, which ruins the average speed in battles.
Equipment Loadout
Calibrated Shells:
Due to low penetration on standard ammo, and having HEAT shells as premium, its worth using calibrated shells on this tank. Biter isn’t a tank that is trying to maximize its DPM use, its more of a tank that waits for the right time to burst 2, 3, 4 shells at a time, then hide to reload. While vents would help with accuracy, penetration is a bit more important due to the already low alpha.
Using calibrated shells would increase penetration on AP from 177mm to 191mm, on HEAT from 250mm to 283mm, and on HE from 48mm to 52mm.
Improved Assembly:
Enhanced armour has limited use on this tank, as the biggest improvement it makes is on the hull armour, when fighting tier 7 enemies. However for the most part, the hull armour isn’t too reliable, and Enhanced Armour doesn’t help in tier 8-9 battles.
Its better to use improved assembly, which would increase the tank’s base HP from 1400 to 1456.
Vertical Stabilizer/Refined Gun:
Either of these can work on this tank, it has both mediocre dispersion and poor gun handling for how low alpha it is. Due to how fast it can burst damage, the gun can also bloom after shooting by quite a bit.
Try both, since some players will find one is better than the other, and vice versa.
Gameplay advice
Overall gameplay of the Biter is that of a support tank. It doesn’t quite have the strengths of other tanks, and generally needs to either be support for allies, or to be supported by allies.
General gameplay:
In battle, always try to have at least one ally with you, while you do have good magazine damage of 750, if you do have to shoot all 5 shells, you then have an almost 18s reload. Combine this with low alpha and mediocre penetration, its generally good to be with another tank that can support you.
Try to use hulldown positions where possible, and hide the weaker hull. The -6 gun depression can make this a bit awkward, but the turret is reliable, and hiding the hull is the only way you’ll bounce shots in this tank.
Note reload times:
For you to reload from an empty magazine to full, it takes 17.66s.
If you only shoot 4 shells, then it will take 13.73s.
For 3 shells, its 10.33s.
For 2 shells, its 7.16s.
For 1 shell, its 4.22s.
Trading damage:
Due to having the worst alpha damage in tier 8 (and almost the worst in all of tier 7 & tier 6), you have to almost always try to shoot at least 2 shells for every time the enemy shoots 1.
Its not worth trying to “save” your DPM by only shooting your highest DPM shell, as the damage is very low and the reload isn’t even great (4.22s for 150 damage, compared to tier 7 tanks which have 3.2-3.6s reload with 160 damage).
If you trade 2 shots, that’s 300 damage, 3 shots is 450 damage. Facing most tanks, usually 2-3 shots will out-trade them, then you can retreat for reload and repeat. Never let enemies trade shot-for-shot with you, since your alpha is so low that you’ll always lose the trade.
Aim shots well:
Don’t snap shots with this tank. It does reload fast, however its only due to having low alpha, the DPM of this tank is not impressive for how low alpha you have, so each missed shot matters quite a bit in a fight with enemies.
Due to the poor dispersion and mediocre gun handling, you should try to let the gun aim in for each shot as much as you can. Generally taking rushed shots doesn’t work out great due to the unimpressive accuracy stats and low penetration.
Overall the Biter plays as a support tank, its low alpha & mediocre accuracy hold it back on its own, but make it a perfect tank to provide supporting fire to allies, or for allies to support you.
Overall
Armour – 5/10
Gun – 4/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 7/10
Biter is overall a decent tank.
Armour is average for a medium, with a decent hull and pretty strong turret, side armour is fairlyw eak.
Gun is mediocre, low alpha, unimpressive penetration, mediocre gun handling & dispersion. 5 shells and a fast burst/reload are the main redeeming points.
Mobility is decent, with good acceleration rate, however slow traverse speed lowers the tank’s average speed. Reverse speed is good, at -22km/h.
Speed is great at 58km/h.
Is it worth getting?
Biter is worth getting if you want a fun or unique vehicle. Its not an amazing tank, despite having pretty decent armour and mobility, it just has a few major drawbacks which hold it back from being great.
However, it is a fun tank due to the fact that it essentially never stops firing, having 5 shells in the magazine and a fast reload on nearly all of them, the tank is almost always reloaded with at least 1 shell.
The Biter is worth 7,000 gold. Its a fun tank, its quite unique, but its nothing too amazing in terms of its strength in battle.
