BZT-70

Last updated 09 April, 2026.

BZT-70 is a Chinese tier 10 heavy tank. It features a massive gun with huge damage per shot, but pays for it with weak armour & terrible accuracy.

Armour

(BZT-70 in the images is usingย Enhanced Armour)

Drag slider right -> to view 260mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 325mm HEAT

Armour when flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 700mm+ (auto-ricochet)
Mid plate 180mm
Lower plate 160mm

Turret front 280mm
Cupolas 180-230mm

Side armour:
78mm (angled to 120mm) above the tracks
78mm flat behind the tracks + 10mm spaced armour

vs 260mm AP (top image), 325mm HEAT (bottom image)
Using -8 gun depression:

Upper plate 3300mm+ (auto-ricochet)
Mid plate 185mm

Turret front 320mm
Cupolas 185-240mm

Armour performance:

Strong areas:
-The upper plate is super well angled, impenetrable to anything on flat ground.
-The turret front is a 50/50 penetration to enemy standard ammo. Its best not to rely on it, but it can sometimes bounce, especially with gun depression.

Main weakpoints:
-The flat middle plate & lower plate are both very weak to all ammo.
-The 2 cupolas on each side of the turret are also weak to all ammo.

Gun

BZT-70 mounts a 180mm caliber gun.

Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/HE/HE
-Penetration: 250/210/90mm.
-Alpha damage: 910/1200/1350
-Reload time: 22.4s
-DPM: 2442 (3219 on HESH)

Handling:
โ€“Estimated aim timeย is 5.6/5.9s
โ€“Base aim timeย is 3s, but it can get down to 2.31s.
-Dispersion is 0.453/0.385
โ€“Gun handlingย is 0.3/0.3/0.25, or 0.26/0.26/0.22 withย Vertical Stabilizer.

Usability:
-Shell velocities are 500/400/400 m/s.
-Gun depression is -8 degrees, except over the rear where its -5 degrees.

Just like the Caliban‘s gun, the BZT-70’s gun trades off every single stat in order to have super high alpha. It makes it a very unreliable gun with low overall penetration and shot effectiveness, but devastating damage when it does get a chance to penetrate the armour.

Poor shell velocity cannot be overlooked, as its one of the most common reasons for missed shots or failed HE shots on this tank, so improving it is essential.

Mobility

Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 32km/h.
-Reverse speed is -9km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 13.3 hp/t.
-Engine power is 1208hp for its 91 ton weight.

Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 13.3 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 32.6 deg/s.

Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 11.1 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 27.2 deg/s.

Terrain resistanceย stats:
โ€“Terrain resistancesย are 1/1.2/1.7

Overall the mobility of this tank is decent for a heavy tank. The only massive downsides are that the reverse speed is terrible, and the fact that the tank has no armour. For a 91 ton tank it feels decently mobile, but its not armoured like you’d expect, but compared to other heavy tanks, the mobility isn’t the worst.

Equipment Loadout

BZT-70 has no special consumables or provisions.

Calibrated Shells:
This tank is not based around DPM or reloading fast. While it is important (especially for a heavy tank), the BZT-70 is much more focussed around having a huge impact on the battle with a single shot, making it much more important that each shot you take has the highest possible chance to hit or penetrate.

With calibrated shells, AP penetration is improved from 250mm to 270mm, premium HE penetration is improved from 210mm to 227mm, and HE from 90mm to 97mm.

Enhanced Armour:
Enhanced armour’s main use on this tank is to make the turret front harder for enemies to penetrate using standard ammo.
Without enhanced armour, most heavy tanks can penetrate the turret armour with AP without too much trouble, at best you might get a 50/50 chance of a bounce, but its turret armour isn’t reliable.

Its worth using instead of improved assembly, as if you can make the enemy tanks load premium ammo, or get an extra bounce, it will generally be worth more HP than the extra 96 that improved assembly gives.

Accuracy equipment:
Between GLD/Supercharger and V-Stabs/Refined Gun, there are multiple combinations that could work depending on what you want from the gun. It would be best to experiment with different options yourself to find what suits you best.

However, a good “general purpose” setup requires Supercharger, since the shell velocity of this tank is so slow that even hitting mid-range targets is difficult if they move even slightly.
Supercharger increases shell velocity of:
AP from 500 -> 675m/s
Premium HE from 400 -> 540m/s
HE from 400 -> 540m/s

Gameplay advice

Gameplay of the BZT-70 is much like a Caliban, and even somewhat comparable to an FV183 (if you play it frontline/second line).

Its a support heavy tank, a very rare sub-class of heavy tank which is heavily reliant on its allies due to its lacking armour/gun/mobility.

General gameplay:
If you have a Caliban, play the BZT-70 in the same kind of playstyle.

This is a tank with weak armour, massive size, terrible accuracy, and an extremely long reload. Just like a Caliban it stores all of its stats into single-shot alpha damage, so you have to really play the tank based around preserving your HP, and only taking well calculated shots.

Try to avoid using frontline positions, as they are usually under the most pressure from enemy tanks. You are almost always spotted, and in very close range to enemy tanks, mostly with no easy way to retreat out.
Due to your long reload, weak armour, and poor reverse speed, second line positions are usually much better, as you face less pressure from the enemies.

Let allies take hits:
Don’t try to be a heavy tank. Be wary that your armour is much weaker than nearly all other tier 10 HT, and if enemies can see you, then you are very likely to lose HP.
Also note, your base HP is among the lowest of tier 10 HT.

Let other heavy tanks take hits, they are better equipped to do so, and it will make the enemies distracted enough for you to pull out and take a shot. If you time it right, you should be able to shoot without taking much damage.

Avoid half-aimed shots with this tank:
As your accuracy stats are SO bad on this gun, you will take a very long time to aim, and your armour mostly won’t be able to bounce enemy shots.

So when you shoot, either fully aim your gun if you have time to do so, and know you will get a result (full penetration);
OR, don’t aim at all, just use HE, and just let the splash damage chunk down the enemy HP. Its not full damage, but it saves you HP since you don’t take time to aim.

Overall

Armour โ€“ 3/10
Gun โ€“ 3.5/10
Mobility โ€“ 5/10
Speed โ€“ 3/10

BZT-70 is overall a weak tank.

Armour is weak for a HT, compounded by its very wide hull. The turret is the only area with usable armour, and is still a 50/50 for tier 10 AP to go through.
Gun has terrible stats in accuracy, aim time, handling, & shell velocity, but has very high alpha and a good -8 gun depression.
Mobility is decent for a HT in general, but with a terrible -9km/h reverse speed.
Speed is mediocre, 32km/h.

Is it worth getting?

BZT-70 is a meme tank, much like the Caliban.

For the most part its not effective and is only really worth playing for the fun factor. If you like really massive alpha, and can live with the TERRIBLE gun handling stats, then you may find this tank fun.
However if you hate tanks which are super inaccurate & unreliable, then BZT-70 may not be the definition of a “fun tank” for you.

BZT-70 is worth 15,000 gold. Its a tank like the Caliban, just there for the purpose of dealing huge damage, but is terrible at everything else.
