Armour

(The Churchill GC in the images is using Enhanced Armour)

Drag slider <- left to view 177mm APCR

Armour when flat and facing head-on:
Superstructure 150mm
Angled mid plate 130mm
Lower plate 145mm
Gun mantlet 130mm
Armour behind tracks 110-180mm

Side armour:
The Churchill GC’s side armour is 65mm, which is decent enough to not be HE penetrated and to use in angling a bit, but the tank can’t sidescrape.

vs 125mm AP (top image), 177mm APCR (bottom image)
Using -10 gun depression:

Superstructure 155mm
Mid angled plate 225mm
Gun mantlet 130mm
Armour behind tracks 90-395mm

Armour vs tier 5:
Against tier 5 tanks, the Churchill GC has very strong armour. Its superstructure can  bounce all standard ammo from any tank (except the Pz. Sfl. IVc & Angry Connor), and can even bounce premium ammo from about half the tanks in tier 5.

The lower plate is also strong, able to bounce standard ammo of almost all tanks. The main frontal weakpoint is the mid angled plate, due to it being very thin despite good angling.

The armour behind the tracks isn’t so much of a weakpoint in tier 5 due to low penetration.

Armour vs tier 6:
In tier 6, the Churchill GC’s armour is still very reliable. Its able to bounce standard ammo from almost all medium & light tanks reliably, and only a few heavies (with more than 155mm AP) can reliably penetrate the superstructure. Other heavies will either bounce, or have a roughly 50/50 chance to penetrate.

The lower plate is also strong, though it will only bounce lower penetration level medium & light tanks. The mid plate is the weakest part of the frontal armour. The armour behind the tracks is a weakpoint, but lower penetration enemies will struggle to penetrate it.

Armour vs tier 7:
The Churchill GC still has some armour against tier 5 tanks. Most mediums have a similar level of penetration to tier 6 heavy tanks, so some will still bounce off the superstructure. Other areas of the tank won’t get bounces, and most enemies in tier 7 have no issue dealing with the Churchill GC’s armour.

Gun

The Churchill GC mounts a 32-pounder (94mm) gun.

-Alpha damage is 250 on AP, 210 on APCR, and 330 on HE.
-It has an 5.9s reload, giving it 2527 DPM.
-Penetration on AP is 214mm, APCR is 246mm, and HE is 47mm.
Estimated aim time is 2.7/2.9s
Base aim time is 1.9s, but it can get down to 1.46s.
-Dispersion is 0.290/0.246
Gun handling is 0.14/0.14/0.12, or 0.12/0.12/0.1 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -10 degrees.

Overall this gun is incredible, its one of the best guns in the game tier-for-tier. It has amazing DPM with good alpha damage, amazing aim time, extremely good accuracy, & great gun handling. Its penetration is insanely high, with standard ammo able to penetrate the upper plate or turret of almost any tank that you could face. Gun depression is also amazing, with the -10 degrees feeling more like -12 just due to how low to the ground that this gun is mounted.

Mobility

-Top speed is 30km/h forwards, and -12km/h in reverse.
-Traverse speed is 44.9 deg/s on hard terrain, and 37.4 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 11.8 hp/t, it has a weak 483 horsepower engine for its 41 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 11.8 hp/t on hard terrain, and 9.8 hp/t on medium terrain.
Terrain resistances are 1/1.2/1.8

Overall this mobility is alright. The top speed is low, but for a Churchill this is very fast, and reverse speed is quite poor. Traverse speed is very good, especially considering that this tank has some armour.
The main lacking factor is acceleration, which is quite slow, however it is enough for this tank’s fairly unimpressive top speed.

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

The Churchill GC has no special consumables or provisions.

Gun Rammer:
Due to having the best penetration in tier 6, and enough standard ammo penetration to even easily penetrate the heaviest armoured tier 7 tanks, calibrated shells is essentially useless on this tank.

Its far better to use gun rammer and improve on the amazing combination of high DPM & good alpha which this tank has. Gun rammer would increase DPM from 2401 up to 2527, and improve reload time from 6.3s down to 5.9s.

Enhanced Armour:
The Churchill GC has good armour, its thick but very flat. Its worth using enhanced armour as it actually make a significant difference to how much you can bounce in a battle.

The upper superstructure armour is 150mm base, which is exactly the level of AP penetration that many tier 6 heavies have, and many tier 7 mediums have (this means they have a roughly 50% chance to penetrate upon hitting a shot).

Using enhanced armour would increase the base armour to 155mm, which will allow you to bounce many tier 6-7 heavy/medium tanks much easier.

Improved assembly isn’t as useful, as 34 HP is nothing in comparison to bouncing 160-220 damage, or forcing enemies to lower their damage with premium ammo.

Vertical Stabilizer/Refined Gun:
Due to having great stats on all areas of its accuracy (aim time, dispersion, gun handling) Either of these equipment choices will work well.

Vertical stabilizer is great as it reduces the amount of effective aim time on the tank, which is important for the Churchill GC in particular. This tank has a very narrow gun arc, and fast hull traverse speed, so its constantly needing to turn the hull to aim at tanks, causing the gun to bloom out.

Refined gun is also great as it reduces the dispersion in all situations, down to an amazing 0.254, the most accurate in tier 6.

Gameplay advice

The Churchill GC plays differently depending on the tier of battle it is in. In battles facing tier 5-6, the tank can play pretty aggressively, in tier 7 battles, it needs to be more of a sniper.

General gameplay:
When top tier, fighting tier 5 and 6 enemies, you can play more of a support role, or even frontline role. Sniping does work as well, but it doesn’t put the good armour of the tank to use, and its harder to make full use of the great DPM by sniping.

In these top tier battles, try to use 2nd line positions where you won’t be the main focus of the enemy guns, but if they do shoot you, you can still bounce some shots. Try to use gun depression as well, since it hides that weak mid angled plate. Use the great DPM and penetration to out-reload and out-damage them.

Fighting against tier 7 tanks, you have to play more of a regular TD role, as the armour won’t work nearly as well. Use long range positions and bushes to decrease the chances of getting spotted, and just use the great DPM & penetration to deal with enemies at long range. Later in battle you can push forward when most of the enemies have been spotted & damaged, and just try to use your HP to trade and win the game.

Know the enemy penetration:
As the Churchill GC’s armour is completely flat, it means its very easy to know what enemies will and won’t penetrate you, as long as you know their penetration.

You can be fully confident in your armour against tanks with 110-130mm penetration, as both the superstructure and lower plate will be impenetrable to these enemies (just be wary of the mid angled plate).

Against enemies with 135-150mm penetration, you can rely on the superstructure armour, but the lower plate will be penetrable (you can angle slightly for tanks with 135-140mm penetration to try get lower plate bounces).

Against tanks with 150-155mm penetration, you can partially rely on the superstructure armour, as its a 50/50 for penetration. If using full gun depression, then these tanks will also bounce.

Against any tanks with more than 155mm penetration, don’t expect to bounce shots, play more carefully and try to avoid letting them shoot you.

Use gun depression:
The Churchill GC has a very low mounted gun, which makes using gun depression very easy. Using the gull -10 degrees will increase the armour of the Churchill GC by roughly 5mm, which will make it more reliable against the 150-155mm penetration level.

Conserve HP:
As the Churchill GC is a TD, its HP is low, only 850 HP. It means that you can’t take its or trade your HP well, as just 2 shots from a KV-1S (with a bit of high rolling) could kill you from full HP.

If you know the enemy can penetrate your tank, then don’t risk trading your HP, in most cases its not worth it. The only times you should trade your HP are if you know that you have to kill a certain enemy to win the battle, and are just forced to take the damage.

Overall gameplay of the Churchill GC is that it can be a very effective sniper in all battles it plays, but as a top tier tank, you can use the armour and play a bit more of a support or frontline role. You have to know enemy penetration levels well in order to be able to use the armour effectively.

Overall

Armour – 7/10
Gun – 10/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 3/10

Churchill GC is overall a great tank.

Armour is solid. A reliable upper superstructure and lower plate armour for its tier & class. Not good for angling but great with gun depression use.
Gun
has good 250 alpha damage, quick reload, high DPM, insanely high penetration, extremely good accuracy, great aim time, great gun handling, and amazing -10 gun depression.
Mobility is average, while lacking acceleration, it has great traverse speed. However reverse speed is poor, -12km/h.
Speed is slow, at 30km/h.

Is it worth getting?

The Churchill GC is worth getting, just as its a very unique tank in the game with one of the best guns you will ever get the chance to play. Other than its odd looks and extreme rarity status, the tank is actually a good vehicle, featuring good frontal armour for its tier, enough mobility (with good traverse), and the best gun in tier 5 & 6 (and arguably in tier 7 as well).

The Churchill GC is worth 3,500 gold. Its a great tank with unique traits and quite a unique feel and gameplay. Not all players will enjoy the tank just due to it being fairly slow, but if you can get over that, then its a nice tank to play.
