Armour
(The FV1066 Senlac in the images is using Improved Assembly)

Drag slider right -> to view 130mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 38mm HE
When flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 37-42mm
Lower plate 22mm
Lower-lower plate 24mm
Turret face 30-35mm
Note that this penetration level shown is from a tier 6 tank with a 75mm gun. It shows that truly any ammo, even the lowest penetration HE, can easily penetrate the Senlac.
Side armour:
The Senlac’s hull and turret sides are both 20mm, with no spaced armour to protect them.
The turret and hull rear are 10mm and 11mm.
Armour against any tier 7-9 enemy:
The Senlac has no area where it can bounce shots. The majority of its base armour plates are 10-20mm thick, so the entire tank is essentially overmatched by any gun it faces.
HE from any enemy (other than a Gravedigger) will be able to penetrate this tank anywhere very easily.
Gun
The FV1066 Senlac mounts a 20 pounder (83.4mm) gun
-Alpha damage is 200 on APCR, 170 on HEAT, and 250 on HE
-It has a 4.4s reload, giving it 2725 DPM
-Penetration on APCR is 205mm, HEAT is 258mm, and HE is 44mm.
–Estimated aim time is 2.9/3.2s
–Base aim time is 1.8s, but it can get down to 1.47s.
-Dispersion is 0.308/0.277
–Gun handling is 0.13/0.13/0.08, or 0.11/0.11/0.07 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -10 degrees.
Overall this is an incredibly good gun. Its accurate, has great aim time, and very high DPM. Though its alpha is low, its compensated by a great reload, making it very easy to out-DPM enemies, or shoot twice for trading damage. On top of this, penetration is great for a light tank, and gun depression is very flexible.
The only unimpressive trait is the gun handling. 0.13/0.13/0.08 isn’t bad, but when you move as quickly as light tank does, the gun handling becomes quite noticeable at higher speeds, or when you stop to aim.
Mobility
-Top speed is 69km/h forwards, and -23km/h in reverse.
-Traverse speed is 68 deg/s on hard terrain, and 61.8 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 29.2 hp/t, it has a decent 311 horsepower engine for its 11 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 29.2 hp/t on hard terrain, and 26.6 hp/t on medium terrain.
–Terrain resistances are 1/1.1/1.3
Senlac’s mobility is overall decent. It has very good top speeds, though its effective acceleration is less impressive than other tier 8 lights due to its worse terrain resistances. Its traverse also falls behind, but is still very good.
The tank feels mobile and agile, but in gameplay it is noticeable that it rarely reaches 69km/h, usually the tank is going at around 60-64km/h, and only reaches its top speed along long flat areas or when going downhill.
Equipment, provisions, & consumables
The FV1066 Senlac does not have any special provisions or consumables.
Gun Rammer:
The Senlac has great penetration for a light tank, with 205mm on APCR and 258mm on HEAT. For a light tank this is significantly above average, and this tank has no issues penetrating enemies.
Gun rammer is a better choice on this tank, as it doesn’t struggle to penetrate, and DPM is one of the strongest points of the Senlac. Gun rammer would improve the reload from 4.7s down to 4.4s, and increase the DPM from 2534 to 2725.
Improved Optics:
As the Senlac is a light tank, improving the view range is a must. Improved optics would take the view range from 264m up to 290.4m, a good amount for a tier 8 tank.
Camo net is not needed, as the Senlac already has good camo rating (despite its fairly boxy profile), and it has on-movement camouflage. The Senlac’s camo rating (when using camo paint and having a level 7 camo crew skill) is 55% when moving & when stationary, and 12% after firing.
Improved Assembly:
FV1066 Senlac is a tank without armour, in fact its the most lightly armoured light tank in tier 8. enhanced armour gives no benefit, so use improved assembly.
Improved assembly would increase the Senlac’s base HP from 1200 up to 1272.
Vertical Stabilizer:
Vertical stabilizer is mandatory on this tank for a few reasons.
1- This is a very quick tank, able to achieve high speeds.
2- Its playstyle requires it to be moving constantly.
3- Its gun handling isn’t impressive.
4- Its dispersion of 0.308 is very good.
5- It can’t afford to sit still and take hits.
All of these equate to the tank needing vertical stabilizer, and not refined gun. Due to how fast the tank moves and how often it is moving in battle, the unimpressive gun handling causes the gun to need to aim in quite a bit after moving. The tank also has a boxy profile which is wasy to hit, and isand very lightly armoured, so you can’t afford to sit still and give the enemies time to aim.
Vertical stabilizer will help to improve the gun handling when moving and when you stop to aim in, making the tank more consistent when it stops to aim.
Gameplay advice
FV1066 Senlac is a light tank, giving it pretty challenging gameplay to begin with. However, on top of this, its also has very few angled plates, making it easy to hit and penetrate, with not the most impressive agility, and also by far the worst armour profile of any tier 8 light; and all this just adds to the challenge which is light tank gameplay.
There isn’t really a good tank to compare the Senlac to, since the most similar tank is the FV301, yet it has very different armour performance and a more frontally mounted turret.
General gameplay:
Like any light tank, the Senlac should be played on larger and more open areas of the map, usually this is the MT flank. In such an environment its able to use its advantages more freely, which are its mobility, gun depression, and its view range.
Use the tank’s great speed to get into early spotting bushes, cap circles, or just to get an early scouting run on the frontline. If possible, try to avoid the line of fire form typical TD positions, since even at long range and high speed, the Senlac isn’t too hard to hit.
During battle, look out for flanking opportunities, and for where you are needed as a light tank. If there is an open flank, a supremacy base, or a push/fight which you can support, use the great mobility and DPM. Avoid brawls with enemies, play as support to better armoured tanks who can take hits for you.
Use bushes to scout:
Due to the good camo rating and view range of the Senlac, you can quite proficiently scout most enemies before you get spotted. Using bushes helps to amplify that camo rating, and lets you get closer to enemy lines before being spotted yourself.
If you decide to shoot while in the bush, pull back immediately and don’t wait for the lightbulb. With how fragile the Senlac is, its not worth taking the risk of being spotted and shot in a bush.
Avoid brawls with enemies:
Try to avoid fighting enemies in a 1v1 scenario, as the Senlac is a very fragile tank.
Keep in mind, despite its great DPM, the Senlac is penetrable (everywhere) to any enemy’s HE shells, this gives the enemy a huge DPM boost against you. On top of this, you have a lowly 1272 HP (any MT has more, all LT have at least the same), and weigh less than 11 tons.
All this amounts to the Senlac being a weak tank in a brawl. Its much better to avoid 1v1 situations where you are the focus of the enemy’s gun.
Using the DPM:
Senlac has incredible DPM, but its not easy to put to use due to its fragile nature.
-The DPM is best utilized in a situation where you are not spotted. For example if you flanked the enemies, and there are multiple out in the open, its the perfect farming opportunity for your high DPM.
-Any situation where you aren’t the focus of the enemy gun. If in a brawl with multiple tanks, you can put out a lot of damage quickly if enemies are focusing on shooting your allies and not you.
-Trading damage, use the very quick reload of the tank to put in 2-4 shots per one time the enemy shoots. To do this effectively, you have to know the reload times of the enemy quite well, and know when you need to stop shooting and get into cover.
2 shots = 4.4s, 400 damage
3 shots = 8.8s, 600 damage
4 shots = 13.2s, 800 damage
Reversing into positions:
Why do this? It can be advantageous if you think you’ll need to run away immediately after taking a shot (an example in the gameplay video at 12:22)
Avoid rams at all costs:
As mentioned above, the Senlac weighs only 10.62 tons, the lightest tank in all of tier 8. This means that even an AMX 13 could out-ram you. The only tank which you face in tiers 7-9 which is lighter, is the SP1C.
It is paramount to not let anything touch you, since your tank takes a huge amount of damage from ramming.
Tank gameplay:
Overall
Armour – 0.5/10
Gun – 8.5/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 8/10
FV1066 Senlac is overall a great tank.
Armour is terrible in all aspects, weak to AP, weak to HE, and terrible HE/HESH protection. Tank is also not hard to hit due to being boxy, and its tracks are thin and don’t cover the hull much. It also has no odd angles to troll HE, as nearly all armour plates are flat.
Gun has incredible DPM, aim time, accuracy, and -10 gun depression. Penetration is good, reload is quick, though alpha is fairly low. Gun handling is decent.
Mobility is good, with a strong engine, good acceleration, and good traverse speed. Reverse speed is average. Not as good mobility as many other lights but perfectly adequate.
Speed is great at 69km/h.
Is it worth getting?
The Senlac is a tank worth getting for light tank players. It just has everything it needs as a light tank to be able to perform well in its role. It has a great gun, good speed and agility, great camo rating, and good view range.
This isn’t an extremely unique tank, being similar to the FV301 in the tech tree. It has some differences to it, but the FV301 can offer similar gameplay for free.
This tank isn’t worth it if you don’t enjoy light tanks, or if you find it hard to play tanks with no armour or low HP. Its a very fragile tank and really requires good use of positions and lots of game experience to play well.
The FV1066 Senlac is worth 6,500 gold. Its a tank with good capabilities. It offers an amazing gun with great speed and good mobility, but is by far the most fragile tier 8 light tank.
Despite it being a good light, the FV301 can arguably do the same as the Senlac, but better, as its more suited to the Blitz meta (having better armour, penetration, and acceleration), hence this tank is best suited to players who really enjoy light tanks.
