Armour
(The Panzer 58 in the images is using Improved Assembly)

vs 181mm AP (left image), 241mm APCR (right image)
When flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate mostly 150-195mm
Lower plate 140-160mm
Turret 140-215mm (270mm+ on edges)
Gun mantlet 250mm
Left cupola 152mm (310mm on edges), right cupola 130mm (260mm on edges)

vs 181mm AP (top image), 241mm APCR (bottom image)
Using -10 gun depression:
Upper plate mostly 165-215mm
Lower plate 140-160mm
Turret 150-250mm (350mm+ on edges)
Gun mantlet 250mm
Left cupola 190mm, right cupola 155mm (250mm on edges)
VS tier 7:
Against tier 7 enemies on flat ground most enemies can easily penetrate the middle area of the frontal hull, however the upper parts will be more red to tier 7 tanks due to many of them having low penetration.
When using gun depression, the turret will have quite a few red areas, especially to enemy mediums as they generally have 20mm less penetration than most tier 7 heavies. Tier 7 heavies will see more grey on the turret, but there still a chance to bounce off, especially if the enemy has bad accuracy. Premium rounds quite easily go through the turret cheeks, even when using gun depression.
Even though the Panzer 58 has some armour against tier 7 tanks, its still not reliable, so still play the tank like it has no armour.
VS tier 8-9 tanks:
Tanks in tier 8 and 9 will not at all struggle to penetrate the Panzer 58, even if its using full gun depression. There are still troll areas, which RNG may cause enemies to bounce off, or enemies may just accidentally hit the turret/hull edges or the gun mantlet.
Lower penetration tier 8 MT and LT will see more red on the turret and upper plate when the Panzer 58 uses gun depression, however there will still be quite a few penetrable areas.
Note that the side armour is a very weak 30mm, and all tanks you face can HE it.
Gun
The Panzer 58 mounts a 90mm gun
-Alpha damage is 240 on AP, 200 on APCR, and 290 on HE
-It has a 5.6s reload, giving it 2553 DPM
-Penetration on AP is 212mm, APCR is 259mm, and HE is 45mm.
–Estimated aim time is 3.2/3.5s
-Dispersion is 0.308/0.277
–Gun handling is 0.14/0.14/0.08, or 0.14/0.14/0.08 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -10 degrees
Overall this gun is amazing, it has great DPM with very nice and unique 240 alpha. Accuracy and aim time are both very good, and penetration and gun depression are also very nice. The handling doesn’t look that special, but the tank feels like its able to very easily snap in shots even when hardly aiming in at all.
This is a great gun that works very well in tier 8, its alpha isn’t low, yet its reload is quick; and its a very accurate gun so it can very reliably deal damage.
Mobility
-Top speed is 50km/h forwards, and -20km/h in reverse
-Traverse speed is 74.8 deg/s on hard terrain, and 61.2 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 19.7 hp/t, it has a fairly strong 690 horsepower engine for its 35 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 21.9 hp/t on hard terrain, and 17.9 hp/t on medium terrain.
–Terrain resistances are decent, with 0.9/1.1/1.4
This is good mobility for the playstyle of the Panzer 58. Its only real “average” areas are medium terrain acceleration and top speeds, all other areas are slightly above average. Traverse speed is very good, which means even on medium terrain the tank doesn’t feel slow, as it maintains its speed well; both hard terrain acceleration and traverse are very good, and the tank feels very nimble on hard terrain.
Equipment, provisions, & consumables
The Panzer 58 does not have any special provisions or consumables.
Gun Rammer:
The Panzer 58 has already got good penetration on both standard and premium rounds. The tank also does not carry any HEAT or special HE rounds, so it really doesn’t benefit from using calibrated shells.
Its far better to use gun rammer. Gun rammer gives the Panzer 58 its strength, a decent alpha damage but still a quick reload, its essential for doing well on this tank. Gun rammer will decrease the reload time from 6.1s to 5.6s, and increase the DPM from 2372 up to 2553, both very nice numbers for its 240 alpha damage.
Improved Assembly:
As the majority of the frontal armour profile of the Panzer 58 is quite weak to standard ammo, there isn’t much use in enhancing it. The shots this tank does bounce are from badly aimed shots or from troll angles on the edges of the tank.
Its far more useful to increase the HP of the tank with improved assembly, taking it from 1450 HP up to 1537 HP.
Vertical Stabilizer:
As the Panzer 58’s gun is quite above average in all areas other than its gun handling, you should be using vertical stabilizer on this tank. The alternative equipment choice is refined gun, which just isn’t needed ad the Panzer 58 already has a great 0.308 dispersion.
Vertical stabilizer enables the Panzer 58 to be very active in battle, but remain very accurate, and this is essential to its gameplay. The stabilizer reduces how much your gun accuracy blooms out when you move, making your tank more accurate when moving, and after you stopped moving.
Gameplay advice
The Panzer 58 is a support medium tank, however it is able to play a more regular role if its needed.
The Panzer 58 fits perfectly into the support role due to its great gun, it can snipe, it can use DPM, it has decent alpha, its penetration is good, and it can easily hit weakpoints; its a perfect support tank gun. The tank also has fairly weak armour, hence reinforcing its need to play support, because if it get shot at, the shot usually does penetrate. The mobility of the Panzer 58 is also perfectly suited to the supporting flanking role, its not slow at all, yet its also not super fast.
If needed, you could play just a regular medium role (the difference would be playing more at the front rather than 2nd line and flanking). It has the mobility, gun, and HP to do so, and even though the armour is not the best, its also not complete paper, and the HP allows it to take a few hits.
Use gun depression:
Though the armour isn’t much, it does get better with gun depression. Using gun depression also reduces your tank’s size profile, and removes the easiest shots that enemies could take, which are on the hull.
Using gun depression also increases the chances that enemies accidentally hit the strong gun mantlet or upper edges of the turret.
Look out for chances to flank:
As any support tank would do. Your gun and mobility are both perfectly suited to either sniping at tanks from an open side flank, or just getting completely behind the enemies and farming up damage while they are distracted.
Always be looking out for opportunities where you can get your gun firing, yet not be the focus of enemy guns.
Trade HP:
Sure the tank doesn’t have much armour, especially on flat ground, however it does have both high HP and DPM. Use both of these to your advantage, of course its best to try avoid being hit, but if you must face an enemy head on, don’t be afraid of using the HP to trade.
Utilize the good DPM and alpha to quickly take down opponents in brawls and 1-on-1 scenarios.
Essentially, just play the Panzer 58 either as a regular medium, or as a support medium. Both gameplay styles work well on this tank, as long as you get are able to get the gun working and dealing damage effectively through the battle.
Overall
Overall the Panzer 58 is a great tank. Its got decent mobility, and while its armour is fairly weak, it does still have some bouncy areas. The main point of this tank is its gun, which has great DPM, great reload time, good penetration, very nice accuracy, and a unique and comfortable 240 alpha.
Panzer 58 is just a great medium which specializes in its gun, but also has decent enough armour and speed.
Is it worth getting?
The Panzer 58 is worth getting if you want a nice and consistent medium tank with a bit of an interesting alpha damage. Its got overall a very nice gun platform which is able to get around and quite easily farm up damage, but is fairly fragile armour wise, though with a nice amount of HP.
This tank is not worth it if you are expecting a lightning fast medium, the Panzer 58’s mobility is decent, nothing special. Its also not worth it if you want a medium which can bounce shots, Panzer 58 has some armour, but its not reliable for bouncing shots.
Note that the Indien Panzer in the tech tree is basically the same as the Panzer 58, but with higher DPM and better acceleration, though with much less HP. If you just want the Panzer 58 for its gameplay, the Indien Panzer offers the same but is free, though it won’t make extra credits.
The Panzer 58 is worth 6,500 gold. Its a very proficient damage dealing medium, and its quite unique with that 240 alpha. The tank feels very comfortable to play, but isn’t necessarily new player friendly due to fairly weak armour.
