Armour

(The Sherman Easy 8 in the images is using Improved Assembly)

Drag slider right -> to view 160mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 208mm APCR

Armour when facing head on:
Upper plate 110mm
Lower area 175mm
Lower plate 110-200mm

Turret cheeks 90-120mm
Gun mantlet 130mm
Cupola 85mm

vs 160mm AP (top img), 208mm APCR (bottom image)
Using -12 gun depression:

Upper plate 140mm
Lower area 240mm

Turret cheeks 95-125mm
Gun mantlet 130mm

Side armour:
Sherman Easy 8 has 44mm of side armour, with 20mm tracks. The sides of this tank are both weak and large, making it very easy for many tanks to HE (any 105mm gun or larger).

Armour vs all tier 6-8 tanks:
Against all tanks you face in the Sherman easy 8, most areas of the hull and turret won’t be able to bounce at all.

The only areas with any armour are the lower areas of the hull: on the lower plate, and the bottom area of the upper plate. The edges of the gun mantlet are also slightly troll. Other than this, no other areas of armour will bounce.

Gun

The Sherman Easy 8 mounts a 76.2mm gun.

Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/APCR/HE.
-Penetration: 160/220/46mm.
-Alpha damage: 150/130/180.
-Reload time is 3.5s giving it 2583 DPM.

Handling:
Estimated aim time is 3.1/3.3s
Base aim time is 2.3s, but it can get down to 1.77s
-Dispersion is 0.312/0.266
Gun handling is 0.11/0.11/0.05, or 0.1/0.1/0.04 with Vertical Stabilizer.

Usability:
-Shell velocities are 792/990/792 m/s.
-Gun depression is -12 degrees around the entire tank.

Overall this isn’t a bad gun. Its shell velocities are poor and DPM isn’t that great for only having 150 alpha, however it has a very quick reload with great accuracy. Its aim time is poor, but its compensated by having some of the best on-move gun handling in tier 7. Penetration is also quite good for a medium tank, 220mm on APCR is significantly above many other tier 7 MT.

The main issue with this gun is its low alpha damage, combined with the terrible armour and unimpressive mobility, its just quite awkward to play.

Mobility

Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 52km/h.
-Reverse speed is -18km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 18.7 hp/t.
-Engine power is 559hp for its 30 ton weight.

Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 18.7 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 59.3 deg/s.

Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 15 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 47.4 deg/s.

Terrain resistance stats:
Terrain resistances are 1/1.25/1.6

Overall this is unimpressive mobility for a medium tank, especially with as little armour as the Sherman Easy 8 has. The acceleration rate on hard terrain is decent, but on medium terrain its mediocre. Its traverse speeds aren’t terrible, but its reverse speed is below average for a medium tank.

Equipment, Consumables, & Provisions

Sherman Easy 8 has access to the Improved Engine Power Boost Consumable.

Improved Engine Power Boost is mandatory on this tank. The Sherman Easy 8 has mediocre mobility when on medium terrain, making this consumable very useful when needing to run away. When activated, the consumable gives an extra 4-6 hp/t and 15-19 degrees/s traverse speed, depending on what terrain type you’re on. It also increases top speeds to +56/-26.

Gun Rammer:
The Sherman Easy 8 already has decent penetration for a medium tank, and with its low alpha & fast reload, using calibrated shells doesn’t benefit the tank as much as gun rammer.

Gun rammer maximizes on this tank’s fast reload, which will help it to put in multiple shots into enemies for each of their shots. It would reduce the reload time from 3.7s to 3.5s, and increase DPM from 2454 to 2583.

Improved Assembly:
Due to its complete lack of armour, there is no reason for this tank to use enhanced armour, as it just doesn’t gain any use from it.

Use improved assembly, which would increase the tank’s base HP from 1220 up to 1269 HP.

Vertical Stabilizer/Refined Gun:
Sherman Easy 8 has both very good gun handling & dispersion, so either of these is a good choice. Refined gun for better accuracy at the cost of slightly slower aim time, or vertical stabilizer for better aim time at the cost of slightly worse accuracy.

Gameplay advice

The Sherman Easy 8 shares many similar aspects of gameplay to the T23E3 or Comet due to its gun, armour, and gun depression.

General gameplay:
Due to weak armour and low alpha, the Easy 8 generally does best on the medium flank.

Start by using 2nd line positions, don’t push to the very front as the tank has very poor armour, and its low alpha makes it poor at damage trading. Only expose the turret/hull when you have a shot loaded, even though the reload is short, leaving the tank exposed for those 3.5s while you reload will still be plenty of time for enemies to shoot you.

Trade in DPM:
Try to shoot enemies multiple times for each time they shoot you. Since you reload so fast, often you can shoot enemies with higher damage at least 2 times before they have a chance to shoot you again.
2 shots = 3.47s
3 shots = 6.94s
4 shots = 10.41s

Avoid taking hits:
Try to avoid taking damage as much as possible. The armour will always get penetrated, so try to conserve the HP and play a bit more carefully as to not take hits.

If you can save the HP to use later in battle, then it will help a lot with the tank’s performance, as it is quite fragile at the start of the battle.

Positioning:
Use gun depression positions as much as possible. The Easy 8 has -12 degrees, which is among the best of tier 7 tanks, and it makes it very easy to use almost any position.

Even if its armour is weak, the fact you have so much gun depression will allow you to hide most of the tank’s profile behind cover, and only expose a small amount, making it harder to hit.

General gameplay of the Sherman Easy 8 is quite similar to the Comet or T23E3, but a bit more careful due to its worse mobility, lower DPM, and weaker armour.

Overall

Armour – 3/10
Gun – 5.5/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 5/10

Sherman Easy 8 is overall an unimpressive tank.

Armour is very weak on both the turret and hull against any level of penetration, its HESH protection is terrible, with sides & rear prone to HE.
Gun is good, great accuracy, good gun handling, high DPM, & great gun depression. Aim time is mediocre, with average standard & premium penetration, but great HESH shells.
Mobility is mediocre, with average acceleration & traverse on hard terrain, but quite mediocre performance on medium terrain, and only -18km/h reverse speed.
Speed is good, 52km/h.

Is it worth getting?

No, its not a great tank, as the 160 alpha “type” of medium at tier 7 already struggles with its low alpha. Combine that with the fact this tank has no armour, at best “average” mobility, and not even having 160 alpha (it has 150), it just makes the tank feel very mediocre.

There are similar tier 7 tanks which can offer the same as this tank, but just do it better.
T23E3, which has much better mobility, DPM, and a more troll turret.
Comet, which has the same -12 gun depression, much stronger turret, and better DPM.

The Sherman Easy 8 is worth 2,000 gold. Its an unimpressive tank in most regards, making it really not worth much. The tech tree Comet would be a much more enjoyable vehicle to get, and its free.
