Armour

(The Souleater in the images is using Improved Assembly)

Drag slider right -> to view 225mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 265mm APCR

When flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 200-270mm
Glowing area 150mm
Lower plate 120-140mm

Gun mantlet 350mm
Gun barrel 160mm

Side armour:
Souleater’s side armour is 75mm on the sides of the cabin and the front half of the hull, and 65mm on the back half of the hull.

This is decent side armour, you can angle a bit, but not much, as the tracks are only 20mm thick and get penetrated fairly easily.

Armour vs all tier 7-9 tanks
Souleater has roughly the same armour performance against most enemies.

Note that this armour is troll, so it always has red areas that can bounce, but it also always has grey areas that are penetrable, so its not “reliable” armour.

The main weakpoint of this tank is the lower jaw/lower plate of the tank, this is definitely the easiest area to shoot.
The next easiest weakpoint is the flat area that’s around the gun mantlet, its only 100mm thick, and its easier to hit when the tank is not angled.
The hardest weakpoint to go for is the gun, you can shoot down the gun barrel, damaging the gun, and dealing damage to the Souleater’s HP. This requires good accuracy, the Souleater has to be aiming directly at you, and you can’t use HEAT ammo.

The upper plate is only sometimes a weakpoint. Due to the teeth being actually modelled and angled, it makes the upper plate a very troll area to shoot with standard ammo. The glowing light that hangs off the Souleater’s gun is also counted as 30mm module armour, so it could catch your shell and lower your penetration on the upper plate.

Other areas of the tank aren’t penetrable due to extreme angling.

Gun

The Souleater mounts a 108mm gun. This gun is a burst-fire autoloader.

-Alpha damage is 270 on AP, 240 on HEAT, and 350 on HE
-It has 2 shells in the magazine, with a 0.25s intra-clip reload, so in 0.25s it can burst out 540 damage.
-It has a 13.3s reload, giving it 2396 DPM.
-Penetration on AP is 238mm, HEAT is 315mm, and HE is 67mm.
Estimated aim time is 3.7/3.9s
Base aim time is 2.44s, but it can get down to 1.87s.
-Dispersion is 0.331/0.281
Gun handling is 0.18/0.18/0.14, or 0.16/0.16/0.12 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -6 degrees.
-Gun arc left/right is +10/-10 degrees each way.

Overall this is a good gun. It has great gun handling for a TD, its accuracy is pretty good, it has amazing HEAT and good HE penetration, with a nice burst damage of 540. Aim time is mediocre, but for 540 damage its not bad. DPM is low for a TD, but also not bad considering this tank’s armour and 540 damage.

Overall this gun is comfortable to use, as its fairly accurate for having 540 damage, with decent aim time and great HEAT penetration. Note that due to having such a fast burst, often your accuracy at long range is quite poor, its a lot easier to miss that 2nd shot.

The gun’s after-shot-bloom is 1.800, one of the best in game. This is due to the gun only having a 0.25s delay before shooting the next shot. This good after-shot-bloom means that unlike a regular tank (with 4.000) or the Annihilator (with 3.000), the burst is quite consistent, and both shots generally hit very close to each other.

Mobility

-Top speed is 46km/h forwards, and -18km/h in reverse.
-Traverse speed is 34 deg/s on hard terrain, and 26.1 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 14.4 hp/t, it has a good 800 horsepower engine for its 55 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 14.4 hp/t on hard terrain, and 11.1 hp/t on medium terrain.
Terrain resistances are 1/1.3/1.5

Overall this is a good mobility profile. Consider how troll the armour is in most situations, this tank has a great top speed. Reverse speed is amazing, and this is important as you lack a turret and have low HP when compared to all of tier 8. Acceleration and traverse speed are both good on hard terrain, and acceleration is decent, but traverse is noticeably worse on medium terrain, again consider that this tank has some quite troll armour.

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

The Souleater has no special consumables or provisions.

Improved Ventilation:
This tank doesn’t need calibrated shells, but its not a “wrong” choice either.

The Souleater has below average penetration of 238mm on its AP shells, however it has an amazing 315mm penetration on HEAT, and a very good 67mm on HE. Vents work well on this tank due to the improved aim time, accuracy, view range, reload time, and traverse speed that it gives. Individually, these stats are fairly insignificant, but put together on the same tank, it does give the Souleater quite a nice boost in its stats.

Calibrated shells is also a good choice, as it means you can more reliably penetrate enemies. This is especially useful for AP, as your AP damage burst is quite high, 540 alpha. If you can penetrate more enemies with AP, then you won’t need to use HEAT as much (and using HEAT reduces your damage burst). Calibrated shells increase penetration from 238 to 257mm on AP, 315 to 356mm on HEAT, and 67 to 72mm on HE.

Improved Optics:
The Souleater is not a sniping tank destroyer, it generally plays on the frontline, so the camo rating isn’t that useful on this tank. The Souleater also has pretty decent view range, (especially if you use vents), with 269m when using improved optics, or 277.8m when using optics with vents.

Improved Assembly:
Enhanced armour doesn’t make a difference on this tank, this is because most of its armour plates rely on weird angles to bounce shots, so Enhanced armour doesn’t actually help to improve them.

With fairly average HP for a tier 8 TD, its better to use improved assembly to increase the HP, from 1300 base, up to 1352.

Vertical Stabilizer/Refined Gun:
Both of these work, especially due to how this gun is balanced.

Vertical stabilizer will make your gun aim faster after moving, very helpful as the Souleater is not a sniping TD, it needs to be on the frontline, or at least second line. The tank also lacks a turret, so is always turning the hull to get its gun aimed onto enemy tanks, so this tank is constantly moving. Similarly, due to having a fast 2 shot burst, vertical stabilizer helps to reduce the after-shot-bloom and make that 2nd shot just slightly more accurate.

Refined gun is good as it improves dispersion in all situations. The gun does aim slower, but its more accurate, especially when fully aimed in. Refined gun also helps with the 2 shot burst, since the lesser dispersion will allow your 2nd shot to have a smaller maximum reticle size.

Gameplay advice

The Souleater plays the role of an assault TD, playing on the frontlines with medium and heavy tanks.

General gameplay:
The Souleater generally works better on the HT side of the map. Since HT have slower reloads, worse accuracy, and worse mobility, the Souleater has a bit more of an advantage when fighting HT.

Its harder for heavy tanks to use mobility to out-maneuver the Souleater, as this tank doesn’t have a turret. Mediums can circle around this tank quite easily, especially when you are on hard terrain.
Due to having a slow reload, its also better to face heavies, as they have longer reloads than mediums, it gives you a chance to trade damage and still have similar/better DPM levels. Facing mediums, they can easily out-DPM and out-reload you, and with their fast speed it makes them harder to deal with (especially with a double-shot gun).

This tank can work on the MT side of the map, it just needs allies to cover it sides and its long reload. You have to work with allied MT and other TDs to share HP and cover reload times, since if you get caught out, your HP will disappear fast, and not having a turret makes you a very easy target to multiple enemies.

Generally, always keep the enemies in front of you. The cabin side armour of this tank is just 75mm, so it can’t over-angle. If you turn too much then enemies can shoot your tracks and penetrate, or shoot the side of the cabin to deal damage.

Do not snipe:
This tank is bad at sniping, this isn’t due to bad stats on its gun, but just due to the fact that the gun is a double-shot. Due to after-shot-dispersion, when you aren’t in close range, your 2nd shot is much more likely to miss, and you can see this even in mid-range fights with the Souleater.

At long range, the effectiveness of this 2nd shell is so much less than in close range that its not worth using at all. A lot of the time you may just do 270 damage for a 13s reload, just due to your 2nd shell missing or bouncing.

Also due to the troll armour and good mobility, you would just be wasting the tank’s capabilities. Your team needs you to use the tank to its strengths to win, and sniping is very much not a strength of the Souleater.

Keep to hard terrain:
While this tank has good mobility, you need to keep on hard terrain to be able to utilize its 46km top speed, and to avoid being circled by fast tanks.

On hard terrain, you have 34 deg/s traverse speed, on medium, you have 26 deg/s. This is a huge difference, and is very important since you don’t have a turret.

Avoid being circled:
Due to being quite a long and large TD, enemies can circle you fairly easily, and sidehug you and avoid your gun.

Try to always keep close to hard cover when engaging enemies, this ensures that if you do get circled, you can push them off by using the hard cover to block their path when circling you.

Utilize the great -18km/h reverse speed, in this case the tank’s large size can actually help you, since you can reverse quickly and try to stop enemies from getting behind you.

Aim:
The Souleater’s aim time is decent, but not great, to be able to hit enemies reliably, especially as you have a 2 shot burst, you need to stop to aim. Snapping shots isn’t too effective in this tank, as you don’t have a turret, so unless the enemy is in front of you and you don’t need to turn, generally you need to stop and let the gun aim in.

Considering how much damage you do, the aim time still isn’t bad, its just that if you do want to deal that full 540 damage, and not miss one or both shots, you shouldn’t rush shots with this gun.

(Something that will let you “aim less” is calibrated shells, as you will be able to penetrate more of the enemy’s armour, and not need to aim for weakpoints on as many tanks.)

Angle and wiggle
When trying to bounce shots, never just point your tank forward to the enemies. This makes it very easy for enemies to aim in on your weakpoints and easily deal damage.

Always wiggle left/right when enemies are aiming at you, or when you are reversing away after taking a shot. With your already troll armour, this just makes it much harder for enemies to deal with your armour, especially if they aren’t very accurate or don’t have high penetration.

Overall gameplay of the Souleater is that of a frontline tank destroyer. Its gun works best in closer range due to being a double-shot, and its troll armour and decent HP allow it to be effective as a frontline tank.

Tank gameplay:

(To come soon)

Overall

Armour – 8/10
Gun – 6/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 7/10

Lightbringer is overall a great tank.

Armour is great, its troll against any enemy, and its very easy to bounce with some wiggling. HE Front HE & HESH protection is great, but poor HESH on sides & rear, average HE protection on sides, decent on rear.
Gun
has lower end DPM, good burst damage of 540, good penetration, decent accuracy, good gun handling, but unimpressive aim time, with only -6 gun depression.
Mobility is good, with good acceleration & traverse speed on hard terrains, and decent acceleration & but slower traverse on medium terrain. Reverse speed is great -18km/h.
Speed is great at 46km/h.

Is it worth getting?

The Souleater is worth getting. This is a great tank, on top of that its unique. An assault Tank destroyer with high alpha is something that tier 8 doesn’t have, and for that high alpha to be a 2 shot burst just makes the tank even more unique.

This tank will be worth it for players who like the gameplay of assault tank destroyers –  tank destroyers that play on the frontline similarly to heavy tanks.

The Souleater is worth 9,000 gold. Its a strong tank with some great stats, its also unique in terms of how it plays in tier 8, and has a very interesting double-shot gun. Its a fun tank and isn’t too hard to play due to quite troll armour.
