Armour
(The Steyr WT in the images is using Improved Assembly)

VS 38mm HE
When flat and facing head-on:
The whole of the front of this tank is covered in about 25-30mm of effective armour. Everything can penetrate HE on any part of the tank, except the gun mantlet and tracks.
Gun
Steyr WT mounts an 8,8cm autoloader
-Alpha damage is 225 on AP, 190 on APCR, and 270 on HE
-It has 3 shells in the magazine, with a 2.5s intra-clip reload, so in 5s it can burst out 675 damage.
-It has a 12.4s reload, giving it 2275 DPM
-Penetration on AP is 215mm, APCR is 252mm, and HE is 44mm.
-Aim time is 2.9s/3.1s
-Dispersion is 0.319/0.287
–Gun handling is 0.21/0.21/0.09, or 0.19/0.19/0.08 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -3 degrees (over the front 20/20 degrees of gun arc), and gradually becoming -7 degrees over the rest of the tank.
-The tank also has a fully traversable turret, with a quick turret traverse speed of 29.78deg/s.
Overall this is a very comfortable gun to have on a sniper TD. Its aim time is quick, dispersion is good, and penetration is high. Though the gun handling is poor, its made up for with the quick aim time.
The autoloading aspects of this gun are also impressive, great DPM, quick reload, and nice alpha damage. The tank also has an amazing 2.4 dispersion-after-shot factor, (which is far better than the usual 4.0) this is a very important stat for autoloaders.
Mobility
-Top speed is 50km/h forwards, and -17km/h in reverse
-Traverse speed is 53.7 deg/s on hard terrain, and 48.8 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 19.2 hp/t, it has a strong 269 horsepower engine for its 14 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 19.2 hp/t on hard terrain, and 17.5 hp/t on medium terrain.
–Terrain resistances are great, having 1/1.1/2.1
The Steyr WT’s mobility is good, but its not insanely quick. The top forward and reverse speed are both good, and the traverse speed and acceleration are also both good. The tank’s mobility is most comparable to medium tanks.
Equipment, provisions, & consumables
The Steyr WT does not have any special provisions or consumables.
Improved Ventilation/Calibrated Shells:
Improved ventilation can work well on the Steyr WT as it already has ample penetration, and it does not really need improving. Use improved ventilation if you just want to have overall better tank performance.
Calibrated shells also works on the tank, as there isn’t really any area of its stats that are lacky, so you can afford to drop vents and take calibrated shells. Doing this hardly has an affect on the tank’s performance as the effect of vents is barely noticeable.
Calibrated shells would increase the AP penetration from 215mm to 226mm, APCR from 252mm to 265mm, and HE from 44mm to 48mm.
Camouflage Net:
The Steyr WT has poor view range, and the tank should never be close enough to the frontline to be spotting enemies. Using camo net on this tank is by far the better choice.
With camouflage installed, a level 7 camo crewskill, and a camo net, the Steyr WT has 79% camo when stationary, 56% when moving, and 18% after a shot.
In tier 7, this is only beaten by the E 25 and T-34-2G FT, but neither of those have the flexibility of a turret.
Improved Assembly:
The Steyr WT has no armour at all, enhancing it would just be worsening the tank as you would be decreasing it HP.
Use improved assembly as it gives the tank an extra 60 HP, taking the HP of the tank from 1000 up to 1060.
Vertical Stabilizer:
Due to the poor dispersion-on-move of the Steyr WT, it needs to use vertical stabilizer. This tank is constantly moving in battle, either turning its hull to depress the gun, relocating to sniper positions, or moving to support allies, its not a stationary tank.
For these reasons, it benefits more from having better gun consistency when moving, rather than better accuracy from refined gun. The accuracy of the Steyr is already good as is.
Vertical stabilizer will also improve the already amazing dispersion-after-shot of the tank from 2.4 down to 2.04. This is an extremely important stat for the Steyr WT, as its an autoloader and has to quickly shoot one shot after another.
Gameplay advice
Steyr WT is a support sniper TD. It needs to play for 80% of the battle at long distance, concealed by a bush. Only in the last 20% of the battle, where most enemies are dying and your team is hunting for the last few, or they need the HP and firepower of your tank to support them in winning, only then should you move up and play as support.
You should try to avoid playing the support role as long as possible, because if you are within the enemies’ line of sight, they will very quickly tear you apart.
1 HE shell from a 150mm gun takes away 90% of your HP
2 HE shells from a 120mm gun take away 94% of your HP
3 HE shells from a 105mm gun take away 100% of your HP
It takes very few hits for this tank to become either a 1-shot, or dead, so you should not play the support role until absolutely necessary, try to stay in the sniper role, or at least remain at a distance and unspotted. You can still play actively by relocating and choosing new positions, but just try to not get hit.
Use camo as armour:
As the Steyr WT has no armour at all, and quite low HP, its a very vulnerable tank. You can’t really use HP to trade damage, as you have so little of it. Its best to just try and always remain hidden and at a distance from enemies.
Use your great camo rating, and a bush or a tree to conceal your tank and snipe at enemies.
Turn and reverse into position:
When getting into a sniping position, or really any position where you think you won’t need to quickly relocate away from, reverse into it.
The reason for this is because the Steyr WT has far better gun depression over its sides and rear of -7, compared to the front where its only -3. If you drive forwards into a position, it can be very awkward for the tank when your hull gets in the way of you gun, and you cant hit enemies due to the gun depression.
Basically this tank just starts the battle as a sniping TD and stays in that role until the critical deciding point in the match, at which point it becomes a support TD.
Overall
Overall the Steyr WT is a very unique tank, and it is very good when positioned and played correctly. The gun is accurate and has good DPM, the mobility is also quite good and the Stery can move like a medium tank, only the armour is very poor, along with low HP. The tank also has very good camo rating and great flexibility.
Is it worth getting?
The Steyr WT is worth getting for players who enjoy sniping TDs and want a bit of a different feel of the same gameplay. The Steyr WT is unlike all the other autoloading TDs in the game, for one it has a fully traversing turret, but also its playstyle is truly that of a sniper; all the other autoloader TDs are much more capable when playing in the support role.
This is a good tank, and so its worth it if it seems like something you would enjoy.
The Steyr WT is worth 5,500 gold. Its a great tank, and its extremely unique in playstyle, as there are so few autoloading sniper TDs in the game. The tank is quite fun to play and worth considering if you like the sound of a sniper with an autoloader.
