T-2020

Page last updated 07 March 2026

The T-2020 is a tier 9 Soviet heavy tank. It has extremely strong hull armour, with decent overall mobility. Its penetration is high but it lacks accuracy & DPM on its gun.
T-2020 sports unique visuals & shooting animations built into its base model (not part of any legendary camo).

Armour

(The T-2020 in the images is using Enhanced Armour)

Drag slider right -> to view 246mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 320mm HEAT

Armour when viewed head-on:
Upper plates 340-370mm
Lower plate 210mm

Turret cheeks 330-450mm+
Cupolas 140-190mm

Armour performance:

Strong areas:
-Turret is strong against all enemies, except for the cupolas.
-Upper plate is strong to all enemies when faced head-on. Turning the hull makes the upper plate weaker, but only against premium ammo.

Main weakpoints:
-Lower plate is weak to all tier 9-10 enemies. May occasionally bounce tier 8s if angled.
-Cupolas are weak to all enemies, will block HESH due to the spaced armour in front of them.

Side armour:
-110mm base armour is good for sidescraping, and it has 50mm spaced armour screens close to the front of the tracks which block HEAT easily when angled.

Gun

Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/HEAT/HE
-Penetration: 248/330/68mm.
-Alpha damage: 430/370/540
-Reload time: 11.2s
-DPM: 2307

Handling:
Estimated aim time is 4.7/5.0s
Base aim time is 2.7s, but it can get down to 2.08s.
-Dispersion is 0.362/0.308
Gun handling is 0.25/0.25/0.12, or 0.22/0.22/0.10 with Vertical Stabilizer.

Usability:
-Shell velocities are 1000/820/820 m/s.
-Gun depression is -6 degrees around the entire tank.

Overall this is a mediocre gun. Compared to other heavy tanks at this tier, its DPM is low, and its alpha isn’t that impressive. It also has pretty mediocre accuracy due to its aim time and gun handling. The penetration is great for a tier 9, and it has great AP shell velocity, but generally its a more derpy gun than other tier 9 HT.

Mobility

Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 40km/h.
-Reverse speed is -15km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 13.8 hp/t.
-Engine power is 805hp for its 58 ton weight.

Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 13.8 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 36.7 deg/s.

Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 10.6 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 28.2 deg/s.

Terrain resistance stats:
Terrain resistances are 1/1.3/1.7

This is good overall mobility for such a heavily armoured tank. The top speed is good for a HT, and acceleration/traverse are decent on both terrain types. T-2020 isn’t a fast heavy but its also not super sluggish like an ST-I.

Equipment Loadout

Gun Rammer:
T-2020 lacks DPM but has very good penetration for a tier 9 heavy tank, the perfect recipe to need a gun rammer. Gun rammer works well on this tank
Gun rammer gives this tank an 11.2s reload with 430 alpha, giving it 2307 DPM.

Improved Assembly:
Due to already having very strong upper plate & turret armour (which will bounce premium ammo for the most part), the T-2020 doesn’t really benefit from enhanced armour.

Use improved assembly instead, it would increase the HP from 2150 to 2236.

Vertical Stabilizer:
The T-2020 is a frontline heavy tank, constantly moving and using its armour. Due to this it should be using vertical stabilizer so that it can be more proficient with its shots after it moves. This is especially true as the aim time of this tank is slow, and gun handling is poor, whereas the dispersion is comparatively not quite as bad.

Gameplay advice

The T-2020 is some what similar to the ST-1 in gameplay. Its heavily armoured with low DPM & mediocre accuracy, making it more of a durability focussed tank, rather than gun focussed.

General gameplay:
For the most part the T-2020 plays the role of a generic heavy tank, so it plays quite like other heavies with decent mobility/armour/damage.
Use the tank on the heavy flank, go hulldown, sidescrape, and trade in alpha damage against enemy heavy tanks.

Properly aim shots:
Due to its slow aim time and bad gun handling, you can’t rush shots in the T-2020. The T-2020 is quite different to other tier 9 heavies in this regard, as its aim time is particularly slow for its level of alpha damage, so you always need to stop and take time to aim if you don’t want to miss.

Sidescrape:
Sidescrape where possible. The T-2020 is actually pretty good sidescraper as long as you hide the front while you reload. The front armour is strong to standard ammo, but since you have to turn the hull when sidescraping, it makes the closest front plate weaker to premium ammo, so keep the tank hidden until you are fully reloaded.

Sidescraping vs 246mm AP

Trade alpha damage:
Trade in alpha damage, not DPM. Among tier 9 heavies the T-2020 is one of the lower DPM heavy tanks, and most with lower DPM have more alpha damage, so trying to out-damage your enemy with raw DPM usually won’t work out well.

Other than the above mentioned, the T-2020 has regular generic heavy tank gameplay with -6 gun depression. It has strong frontal armour, can sidescrape, and is decently mobile, so just play it like you would with other similar heavies.

Overall

Armour – 6/10
Gun – 4/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 6/10

T-2020 is overall a decent tank.

Armour is very strong on the upper plate & turret, with cupolas & lower plate as weakpoints. Side armour is strong with decent HESH protection.
Gun has poor aim time & gun handling, with mediocre accuracy & DPM. Penetration is high & 430 alpha damage is decent.
Mobility is decent, with average HT mobility stats in traverse speed, acceleration, and reverse speed.
Speed is good at 40km/h.

Is it worth getting?

This tank isn’t worth getting, as it doesn’t offer anything different to tanks you can get in the tech tree.
If you want a similar tank, you could get the IS-8, which is free in the tech tree. While its armour is worse, its still not “weak”, and in exchange it gains much more impressive stats in its mobility & gun, and even more HP. If you’re looking for strong armour, you could go with ST-I instead, which is quite similar to T-2020 but also free in the tech tree.

The T-2020 is worth 8,000 gold. The tank is decent, but its gameplay isn’t very exciting and its traits are pretty un-interesting.

It does look quite cool when it shoots (it has a special shooting animation, where the shell ejects from the turret), and some player may like its unique look with its spaced armour and the moving fan on the back.
Whether its price is worth it for the unique animations and look of the tank, that’s up to you.

Price guide:

Prices you can expect the tank to be sold for, based on previous sales in store.
12,500 gold – Camo + equipment + tank.
10,000 gold – Tank only
6,000-8000 gold – Auctions & discount events

Styles & camos:

T-2020 does not have any legendary camouflages yet.

It does have special shooting animations as part of the base model, and the fan on the back turns while in battle.

Historical info:

T-2020 is a tank created by WG for WoT Blitz’s birthday in 2020 (hence its name in game files is ST-I BD).

It has a hull inspired by the IS-5 but with shallower angling on its upper plates and large road wheels.
Its turret is based on early IS-4 prototype turrets (such as Objects 701-0, 1, 2, & 3).

The mechanism on the top of the turret is an autoloader/gun rammer. Generally such mechanisms were used with large guns (such as the 122mm, or the IS-7’s 130mm gun) to assist with loading of the large and heavy 2-part ammunition.
