T25 Pilot 1

T25 Pilot 1 is a tier 8 American medium tank. It is one of the most mobile and agile mediums in the game, with insanely high traverse speed and acceleration rate. It also has a great 90mm gun and quite good turret armour.

Armour

(The T25 Pilot 1 in the images is using Improved Assembly)

vs 192mm AP (left image), 225mm AP (right image)
When facing head on:
Upper plate 100-105mm
Lower plate 135mm
Turret cheeks 218-275mm (auto-ricochet on turret edges)
Gun mantlet 320mm+

Note that the right side turret cheek is much harder to penetrate as its angle is sharper. Its better to shoot left side for a penetration.

vs 225mm AP
Using -10 gun depression
Upper plate: 125-135mm

Turret cheeks 240-290mm

Gun mantlet 320mm+

(Due to normalization, the left turret cheek can be penetrated by 225mm AP, as long as it doesn’t hit the edges)

Against all tanks tier 7-9, the T25 does not have any hull armour. While it can’t be penetrated by standard HE, all AP rounds will easily penetrate the hull.
The below armour analysis is considering only the turret armour.

Armour vs tier 7:
Most tier 7 tanks won’t be able to penetrate the turret of the T25 Pilot 1 on flat ground. Tanks with around 185mm or less penetration will usually bounce off the cheeks. Generally its heavy tanks with higher penetration than 190mm who will be able to penetrate the cheeks.

When using gun depression, tier 7 tanks will really struggle against the cheeks of the turret. To even have a chance to penetrate, enemies will need to shoot premium ammo. And the only tanks with a decent chance of penetration are tanks with more than 240mm APCR, or 250mm HEAT.

Armour vs tier 8:
Lower penetration tier 8 tanks (under 200mm penetration) will face the same issues as the tier 7 tanks, on flat ground tanks with less than 185mm penetration may bounce off the cheeks quite often, and when using gun depression these tanks will need to use premium ammo to penetrate.

Tanks with over 210mm penetration can aim for the left side turret cheek and generally penetrate it quite reliably, even when using gun depression. Though, whichever cheek they aim for, its still a very small and narrow target, with little room for error if they miss.

Armour vs tier 9:
As tier 9 tanks have more penetration than tier 8 tanks, expect them to be able to penetrate a larger area of the turret. The left turret cheek will still be the easiest weakpoint for them to hit, but keep moving the tank and there is still a high chance that enemies miss.

Playing against a T25 Pilot 1
The only real issue you will face with the T25’s armour layout is the turret, especially when hulldown.

-If you want to penetrate the T25’s turret, you have to shoot as close to the gun mantlet as possible, that’s where the armour is weakest. You also have to aim low on the turret, the further up on the turret you hit, the better the angling is.

-Don’t shoot the right side turret cheek, its better angled than the left side, making it harder to penetrate. Its “penetrable” area is also smaller than the left side.

-The left side turret cheek can be penetrated with around 190mm AP on flat ground, and 220mm AP when using gun depression.

-The right side can be penetrated by around 150mm AP on flat ground, and 165mm in hulldown, however this area is much smaller than the left side weakpoint. If you miss this area (small grey triangle right of gun mantlet), then the right cheek is 260-290mm in armour.

Gun

The T25 Pilot 1 mounts a 90mm gun

-Alpha damage is 225 on AP, 190 on APCR, and 270 on HE
-It has a 5.7s reload giving it 2358 DPM
-Penetration on AP is 192mm, APCR is 250mm, and HE is 45mm.
-Aim time is 3.6s/3.9s
-Dispersion is 0.308/0.277
Gun handling is 0.12/0.12/0.08, or 0.1/0.1/0.07 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -10 degrees

The T25 Pilot 1 has a great gun. The only real unimpressive stats here are its aim time, which is still decent, and its AP penetration, which is still 12mm higher than most American medium tanks.
Other than that, its very accurate, it has very good gun handling, great premium penetration, and a decent reload and DPM. Overall when you play this tank the gun just feels very reliable and comfortable to use.

Mobility

-Top speed is a decent 50km/h forwards, and -20km/h in reverse
-Traverse speed is 77.5 deg/s on hard terrain, and 55.3 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 20.4 hp/t, it has a fairly strong 690 horsepower engine for its 34 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 40.7 hp/t on hard terrain, and 29.1 hp/t on medium terrain.
Terrain resistances are insanely good, at 0.5/0.7/1.5

Overall, the T25 Pilot is a very agile and nimble tank, and its small size helps it to just feel very mobile. Its insane amount of acceleration is not that noticeable, this is because on hard terrain it reaches its top speed in just seconds, and then it stays there. That 50km top speed is not that impressive, so you won’t notice the T25 feeling like a “fast tank”; however it does allow the T25 to maintain a very high average speed (tanks with higher top speeds and worse acceleration will generally not be able to maintain as good of an average speed as the T25).

Even on medium terrain the T25 is still extremely agile, the only tank with better acceleration on medium terrain is AMX CDC, and the tank is still able to easily maintain a high average speed.

(Note that the AMX CDC is an extremely high standard of mobility. The fact that the T25 can even be compared to the AMX CDC is already impressive in itself. Considering that the T25 can’t be frontally HE penetrated, and actually has really good turret armour, this level of mobility is extremely good for such a tank.)

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

The T25 Pilot 1 has no special consumables or provisions.

Gun Rammer:
The T25 Pilot 1 has pretty good penetration. 192 on AP is not bad and 250 on APCR is quite good, as it doesn’t use HEAT shells, calibrated shells don’t give this tank much benefit, and it has enough penetration as is.
Use the gun rammer to give this tank a 5.7s reload with 225 alpha, giving it 2378 DPM.

Improved Optics:
The T25 Pilot 1 has got great view range, and as its a medium tank, it should definitely not be using a camo net. Improved optics give the T25 a very good 302m view range

Improved Assembly.:
Enhanced armour can work on this tank if you want to improve the turret armour, however its not reccommended.
The T25’s turret armour mainly comes from its gun mantlet (which is already too strong to need enhancing), and the edges of the turret cheeks, which are auto-ricochets. Enhanced armour only really benefits armour that bounces shots using its base thickness, which is not what the T25’s turret does. The T25’s turret bounces shots due to its armour angling and gun mantlet, not base thickness.

Improved assembly will increase this tank’s HP from 1390 up to 1446.

Vertical Stabilizer:
As the T25 Pilot 1 is a quick and active medium tank, it should be using vertical stabilizer to improve its accuracy while moving. The tank also already has great accuracy of 0.308, so there is no need to use refined gun.

Gameplay advice

The T25 Pilot is just a regular medium, it plays the generic medium playstyle of using gun depression, going hulldown, and grinding out enemies with its gun. It should also be using its great agility to look for isolated enemies to single out and take down.

Don’t be afraid to snap shots in. Sometimes you won’t have much time to aim, or if you do you might take a shot from the enemy. Don’t be afraid of just shooting without aiming for long, as even though the aim time of the T25 isn’t great, its made up for by being very accurate and having great gun handling. It means that the tank can still be quite accurate even if you don’t have time to fully aim in.
Of course its down to you as a player to determine when such situations occur and how much time you should give yourself to aim; but just know that its not detrimental to the tank if you snap in shots every now and then.

Go hulldown and use gun depression. Though the turret armour may not seem that impressive, its quite reliable. Most lower penetration enemies (180-210mm) will have to use premium ammo to even get through the turret cheeks.
The only area that enemies can reliably pen (if they have 220mm penetration) is the left turret cheek. The mantlet covers about 80% of the turret, and the outer edges of the cheeks are auto-ricochet angles.

You have to consider that in battle, sometimes enemies don’t have the chance to be fully accurate, and therefore it can still be easy to miss a small and narrow target like the left turret cheek of the T25 Pilot 1. Enemies should not even be aiming for the right turret cheek as its far harder to penetrate.
You should also be constantly moving the tank, never sit still on a ridgeline. If you are moving, it makes your weakpoints harder to hit, and its more likely enemies will also move their reticle with your tank, making it more likely that they miss.

Try to avoid 1-on-1 fights. Though the tank can be quite capable of handling itself in a 1-on-1, it should still try to avoid them. The HP of the T25 Pilot is very low for a medium tank, so even if you win a 1-on-1 with an enemy, it just takes away additional HP from your tank. That HP is always extremely useful in later game scenarios where you may have to trade HP for damage to take out enemies.
If you can avoid a 1-on-1 close range brawl, do. Instead try to keep them at bay with your fairly strong turret armour and conserver your HP.

If you have played a medium with a strong turret and weak hull before, this tank should feel easy and comfortable to play. Tanks with the most similar playstyle as this are tanks such as the Pershing, Centurion 1, and Indien Panzer.

Overall

Armour – 5/10
Gun – 8/10
Mobility – 10/10
Speed – 5/10

T25 Pilot 1 is overall a good tank.

Armour is weak on all areas except the gun mantlet and turret edges. HE protection is good, and the gun mantlet is very large and strong.
Gun has great gun handling, accuracy, and gun depression. Penetration, DPM, aim time, and alpha are all decent.
Mobility is amazing. Engine power is decent, but effective acceleration is among the best in game, and traverse speeds are the best in tier 8 on a medium. Reverse speed is average.
Speed is just average at 50km/h.

Is it worth getting?

The T25 Pilot 1 is definitely worth considering. Its a great all-rounder tank that many medium players should be able enjoy, just for having great reliability. Its gun is reliable and accurate, its mobility is very reliable, even though its top speed isn’t that impressive, and its turret is reliable for a medium tank.
Overall its just a great blend of all the areas you want to have on a medium tank.

Players who won’t find this tank worth it are players who are expecting an extremely quick tank, this tank is mobile, not quick. Though its acceleration and traverse are insane, its top 50km/h speed is not that impressive for a medium.

The T25 Pilot 1 is worth 6,500 gold. The tank is good, it can be quite fun if you enjoy this style of medium. WG generally sells this tank for an extremely low price, so its basically impossible to overpay for it.

Historical info:

T25 Pilot 1 is one of the tanks along the development path to the M26 Pershing.

It was successor to the T21, T20, and T23, and was the first prototype of the T25 medium tank, which then led to the T26/M26 Pershing.
