Armour when facing head on:
Upper plate 135mm
MG Port 135mm
Lower plate 160mm
Turret front 150-180mm
Turret ring 85mm
Gun mantlet 170mm
Cupola 120mm

vs 160mm AP (top image), 208mm APCR (bottom image)
Using -7 gun depression:
Upper plate 170mm
MG Port 135mm
Lower plate 205mm
Turret front 150-180mm
Turret ring 85mm
Gun mantlet 170mm
Cupola 122mm
Side & rear armour:
Side armour is 46mm behind the tracks, with the tracks being 20mm thick. The side armour above the tracks is 50mm and angled, making it 62mm effective.
Armour vs tier all tier 6-8 enemies:
Against all enemies you face, the armour of this tank generally performs quite similarly.
The upper plate is very weak, and all enemies can penetrate it. The lower plate can be strong to low penetration or when its angled, but its small so likely won’t get any bounces.
The turret is quite reliable to all enemies you face. It has strong turret cheeks with good angling, but the cupola is weak to any enemy. The gun mantlet is penetrable to tier 8 tanks and tier 7 premium ammo.
Gun
The Type 58 50-08 mounts an 85mm gun.
Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/APCR/HE.
-Penetration: 147/195/45mm.
-Alpha damage: 210/170/330.
-Reload time is 5.2s for a total of 2445 DPM.
Handling:
–Estimated aim time is 2.7/2.9s
–Base aim time is 1.8s, but it can get down to 1.39s
-Dispersion is 0.340/0.289
–Gun handling is 0.13/0.13/0.08, or 0.11/0.11/0.07 with Vertical Stabilizer.
Usability:
-Shell velocities are 1000/1000/792 m/s.
-Gun depression is -7 degrees around the entire tank/
Overall this is a good gun. It has good alpha damage with a good amount of DPM (its less than other 85mm guns, but the alpha makes up for it). It also has very high HE damage, with good gun handling. The dispersion is decent but not amazing, its compensated by the good aim time & shell velocities.
There isn’t really a downside to this gun, its penetration is low but that’s normal for this type of gun, all its other stats are quite good while still being fairly different to similar 85mm guns in tier 7.
Mobility
Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 54km/h.
-Reverse speed is -20km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 20.7 hp/t.
-Engine power is 673hp for its 32 ton weight.
Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 20.7 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 57.9 deg/s.
Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 15.9 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 44.6 deg/s.
Terrain resistance stats:
–Terrain resistances are 1/1.3/1.5
Overall this is decent mobility. The performance on hard terrain is good, and on medium terrain is decent. The traverse speed definitely isn’t ideal, but the acceleration rate of the tank isn’t quite as poor as the similar (tutorial) tanks in tier 7, and overall the tank doesn’t feel too slow.
Equipment, Consumables, & Provisions
Type 58 50-08 has access to the Improved Engine Power Boost Consumable.
Improved Engine Power Boost is useful on this tank. The T-34-85 Breakthrough is notably less mobile when on medium terrain, making this consumableuseful when needing to run away. When activated, the consumable gives an extra 4-6 hp/t and 15-19 degrees/s traverse speed, depending on what terrain type you’re on. It also increases top speeds to +53/-28.
Gun Rammer:
Due to being a tier 7 medium tank, gun rammer is necessary on this tank. Tier 7 is a very high DPM tier, where many tanks you face will have higher DPM than you, even with similar alpha damage. Generally it works out better to min-max on the DPM on this tank than trying to improve its unimpressive penetration (which will remain unimpressive even after putting calibrated shells on).
Gun rammer would reduce the reload time from 5.4 to 5.2s, and increase DPM from 2323 to 2445.
Improved Assembly:
Since the Type 58 50-08 has already got good turret armour (which mainly relies on angling not thickness), with a weak hull, there isn’t much benefit to using enhanced armour.
Its better to use improved assembly, which would take the HP of the tank from 1200 up to 1248.
Vertical Stabilizer/Refined Gun:
For this tank, considering its good gun handling and aim time, refined gun will generally be the better choice. Improving its dispersion (a fairly average 0.340) would help balance out the gun which has already got great stats on its gun handling and its base aim time.
Gameplay advice
Overall gameplay of the Type 58 50-08 is quite similar to tanks such as the T-43, T-34-85 Rudy, or T-44-85.
General gameplay:
The Type 58 50-08 has gameplay of a typical medium. It hull is weak but turret has good armour, it has a good gun and decent gun depression.
This tank does well using hulldown positions, where its able to put its good turret armour to use, and utilize its good gun for either damage trading or DPM trading. Try to avoid showing the hull armour and the bottom of the turret, as both the hull and turret ring are very weak.
When using gun depression, always try to move back and fourth a bit, never sit still. The turret has a cupola weakpoint, and high penetration enemies can go through the gun mantlet. Sitting still when using gun depression just gives them a chance to aim for those weakpoints.
Use the engine power boost consumable when you need to get into position quickly, or when you need to retreat. Using it can increase the top speed of the tank to 58km/h, allowing it to be very quick for a brief period.
Trading damage:
With 210 damage and 2445 DPM, generally you are a “DPM” tank, against most enemies you want to try to shoot them twice for every time they shoot you once. This utilizes the good reload of 5.2s to put in a total of 420 damage against enemies that reload for longer than 5.2s.
However, against lower alpha tanks (with 160-200 damage), its better to trade alpha damage. Generally the tanks with this level of damage reload faster than you, so try to only trade shot-for-shot, and don’t let them shoot you multiple times for every time you shoot them.
Type 58 50-08 just has regular medium tank gameplay, essentially with the usual medium tank traits of using hulldown positions, farming with its gun, and using its mobility to flank.
Overall
Armour – 5/10
Gun – 5/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 6/10
Type 58 50-08 is overall a good tank.
Armour is average for a medium tank. It has a reliable turret, but its hull is weak. Has decent HE protection but poor HESH protection.
Gun is good, great aim time, good gun handling, good DPM, & great shell velocities. Penetration is unimpressive, but HE damage is high. Gun depression is -7.
Mobility is mediocre, its hard terrain mobility is good, but on medium terrain its traverse speed and acceleration are both noticeable. Reverse speed is also average at -20km/h.
Speed is great, 54km/h.
Is it worth getting?
The Type 58 50-08 isn’t really worth getting.
This tank isn’t anything unique for tier 7, as its very similar to the T-43’s gameplay (a tech tree tank). On top of that the T-43 is arguably better due to its better gun and mobility stats, and a bit more interesting to play with its very high DPM.
Type 58 50-08 is not a bad tank, so it is still worth playing if you don’t have other similar tanks or don’t want to play them.
The Type 58 50-08 is worth 3,000 gold. Its a good tank, but its not really that interesting to play or unique in tier 7. Its essentially a T-34-85 Rudy, T-43, or T-44-85 which trades out some different stats.
