Armour

(The Vicker MBT Mk.3 in the images is using Enhanced Armour)

Drag slider right -> to view 210mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 259mm APCR

This is a regular penetration level you’ll face in tier 8.

Drag slider right -> to view 227mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 285mm APCR

This is tier 9 level penetration.

When flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 275mm-290mm
Lower plate 102mm

Turret cheeks 245-400mm
Area under gun 235mm
Gun mantlet 300-375mm
Cupola 35-95mm

Side armour:
The Vickers MBT Mk.3’s side armour is 80mm

vs 210mm AP (top image), 259mm APCR (bottom image)
Using -8 gun depression:

Upper plate 355-370mm
Turret cheeks 265-400mm
Area under gun 230mm
Cupola 32-88mm

Armour vs tier 7:
Facing tier 7, nothing can penetrate your upper plate, even HEAT slinging enemies which use calibrated shells. The turret front is also very strong, with essentially nothing being able to penetrate it.

The weakpoints are the lower plate and large cupola on the roof, both of which can be penetrated by all tier 7 enemies.

Armour vs tier 8:
Against tier 8 enemies, the armour performance is very similar. No medium or light tank can penetrate the upper plate (the only exceptions are tanks which can achieve 290-305mm HEAT with calibrated shells, or the TVP VTU with its 285mm APCR).

A few heavy tanks are able to penetrate the upper plate, these being ones with over 280mm of premium APCR penetration (or over 290mm HEAT). Note that if you turn the tank’s hull or use gun depression, even these highest penetration tanks can’t penetrate the upper plate.

The turret is penetrable to premium ammo of many tanks, but only on some small areas which are directly next to/under the gun mantlet, generally the turret is still extremely strong.

The cupola and lower plate are still weakpoints to all enemies, and the lower plate is vulnerable to HESH ammo types.

Armour vs tier 9:
Against tier 9 enemies the upper plate is still extremely strong, and will easily bounce all standard ammo from any non-TD tank. Many tier 9 MT and LT will still be unable to penetrate the upper plate with premium ammo (since quite a few have 265-275mm premium APCR, or just use HEAT).

The turret is still very strong, however just like with tier 8 enemies, there are small areas on the turret cheeks and under the gun which are penetrable.

Cupola and lower plate are weak to every single enemy you face, vulnerable to HESH & premium HE, so watch out for BZ-68, Cobra, Conway, etc.

Gun

The Vickers MBT Mk.3 mounts a 105mm L7 gun.

-Alpha damage is 320 on APCR, 270 on premium APCR, and 400 on HESH
-It has a 9s reload, giving it 2126 DPM.
-Penetration on APCR is 190mm, premium APCR is 264mm, and HESH is 65mm.
Estimated aim time is 3.2/3.4s.
Base aim time is 2s, but it can get down to 1.54s.
-Dispersion is 0.335/0.285
Gun handling is 0.14/0.14/0.12, or 0.12/0.12/0.1 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -8 degrees.
-Shell velocities are 1300/1550/1000 m/s, the best of any tier 8 medium.

Overall this is a good gun. It has a lot of good stats, such as 320 alpha damage, great aim time, amazing shell velocity, among the best premium APCR in tier 8 MT, good dispersion, and pretty good gun handling.

However it also has some quite mediocre stats which are very significant, the DPM isn’t bad for 320 alpha damage, but compared to all tier 8 mediums, its not at all impressive. A 9s reload is also fairly long, on top of this you have very low standard penetration of 190mm on APCR.

Essentially you have an accurate gun with high premium penetration, good alpha damage, good gun depression, and great shell velocity; but a relatively lacking reload time and very mediocre standard penetration.

Mobility

-Top speed is 57km/h forwards, and -20km/h in reverse.
-Traverse speed is 59.3 deg/s on hard terrain, and 49.3 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 20 hp/t, it has a strong 969 horsepower engine for its 48 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 18.2 hp/t on hard terrain, and 15.4 hp/t on medium terrain.
Terrain resistances are 1.1/1.3/1.5

Overall this is decent mobility. The top speed is very good, with average reverse speed. The acceleration is decent but will often struggle to reach the 57km top speed, and the tank does slow down noticeably going up hills. Traverse speed is good but also nothing too impressive. Terrain resistances are below average for a medium but not too noticeable, as the base power/weight ratio is 20hp/t, which counters the mediocre terrain resistance.

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

The Vickers MBT Mk.3 has no special consumables or provisions.

Gun Rammer:
Calibrated shells are not worth using on this tank due to it having APCR/APCR ammo loadout, on top of this, its premium APCR shell has among the best penetration for a tier 8 medium tank, and when you use premium ammo you won’t struggle to penetrate anything.

Gun rammer would increase DPM from 2020 up to 2126, and improve reload time from 9.5s down to 9.0s.

Enhanced Armour/Improved Assembly:
Either of these are a good option, as the Vickers can either choose to improve its already strong upper plate & turret, or to improve the HP, as turret and upper plate armour are already good enough.

For enhanced armour, this mainly benefits the tank against high penetration tier 8 heavies, or against tier 9 medium & light tanks. Enhanced armour will improve the upper plate’s reliability mainly against the penetration level of 275-285mm, while you don’t face this too often in tier 8 MT, some tier 8 HT (such as Tiger II, Keiler, Emil 1951, etc) and many tier 9 MT/LT will have this level of penetration. Enhanced armour’s main use is to bounce those enemies when using premium ammo.

Improved assembly would increase the tank’s HP from 1400 up to 1456, and this choice works well since the Vickers already has great armour on its upper plate and turret. The majority of tanks you face (tier 8 MT) won’t be able to penetrate the upper plate, even with premium ammo, making enhanced armour (arguably) not needed.

Vertical Stabilizer/Refined Gun:
Both of these can work due to this tank having pretty good stats in both dispersion and handling. The Vickers has 0.335 dispersion, which is good for a 320 alpha damage gun; gun handling is 0.14/0.14/0.12, again its good for this level of alpha damage.

Use refined gun to improve the accuracy of the tank in all situations. It will aim slightly slower, but the aiming circle itself will be smaller, allowing you to be more accurate, especially at longer range.

Use vertical stabilizer to improve the effective aim time of the tank, since the stabilizer will mean you aiming circle blooms out less when you move the tank, you can aim slightly faster in all situations where you are moving or have just stopped moving.

Gameplay advice

The Vickers MBT Mk. 3 is primarily a hulldown medium tank, since it specializes many of its stats into having a strong upper plate and turret armour profile. Other than this it plays fairly similarly to other medium tanks with this level of alpha damage.

General gameplay:
The general gameplay of this tank should focus around using the tank in hulldown positions. Take this tank to positions where you can hide the lower plate, and ideally also use some gun depression to make the cupola harder to hit.

Try to keep with allies, since despite having good alpha damage, enemies with lower alpha damage can easily out-reload you, and most of them will also out-DPM you. You need allies support to help you deal with enemies that rush you or can out-DPM you.

Always try to hide the lower plate, this tank has very strong upper plate armour and a great turret, but neither of these are useful when the lower plate is exposed. Enemies will almost NEVER bounce off if they can see your lower plate.

Other than this, the Vickers plays a fairly standard medium tank role, using gun depression to hold positions, using alpha damage to trade against lower damage enemies, and using its speed to push the flanks (though be aware that while its speed is high, mobility itself is just average).

Go hulldown/use gun depression:
Try go hulldown whenever you can, as stated above, this tank’s armour (while it seems amazing) does not work unless you hide its weakpoints. Going hulldown will hide the lower plate, even on flat ground, just find some cover like a low wall, piles of rubble, etc, to hide behind.

Due to how strong the upper plate is, generally it doesn’t matter if you use gun depression or not. Where it does matter is for the large cupola on the roof. Being on flat ground means that this cupola is still very easy to hit, so while the biggest weakpoint is hidden, the cupola is not.

Use gun depression positions, it helps to make the size profile of the cupola smaller, making it harder to hit. You should also not sit still, try to move back and fourth slightly, or fully pull back after shooting, this also makes the cupola harder to hit due to your movement, forcing the enemies to adjust their aim.

Use premium ammo:
Due to having poor standard ammo of 190mm on APCR, don’t cheap out on using the premium APCR. There are many tanks which you’ll need to use premium ammo for that other similar tanks may not need, such as on the lower plates of tier 9 enemies, or even some tier 8s (for example Type 59, IS-6, IS-5, etc).

The premium ammo has among the best penetration of any tier 8 medium, which allows you to easily penetrate almost any enemy (you can butter through many same tier heavy tanks’ upper plates).

Sidescraping:

The Vickers can sidescrape well due to having 80mm of base side armour. Just be wary of enemies which use premium APCR against you.

Overall the Vickers can be both a “regular” medium in gameplay, or a hulldown medium. Due to its focus on having strong armour, it does very well when the lower plate is hidden, but will often need a peek-a-boo type of playstyle due to its longer reload time (hence often you need an ally to support you.)

Overall

Armour – 6/10
Gun – 6.5/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 7.5/10

Vickers MBT Mk.3 is overall a good tank.

Armour is good but doesn’t work if not hulldown. Upper plate & turret are both extremely strong, lower plate & cupola are both extremely weak. Usable in sidescraping.
Gun
has terrible standard penetration but high premium penetration, good alpha damage with decent DPM, good gun handling, accuracy, & great aim time. Gun depression is -8 degrees.
Mobility is decent, with good acceleration & traverse speed on hard terrain, with lesser but still decent performance on medium terrain. Reverse speed is average with -20km/h.
Speed is great, at 57km/h.

Is it worth getting?

The Vickers MBT Mk.3 is worth getting if you want a hulldown gameplay tank with good alpha damage and gun depression. While the is fairly similar Obj.274aand has some similar aspects to its gameplay and stats, the Vickers does offers a few different traits which are worth looking out for.

The Vickers Mk.3 MBT is worth 7,500 gold. Its a good tank with some very strong aspects, but also with a fair share of very poor aspects. While its armour is extremely strong, it doesn’t work at all if the lower plate is exposed. While it has a great gun in almost all aspects, much of it is severely held back by poor standard penetration (and using calibrated shells doesn’t help to mitigate this issue). However other than that, its a great vehicle.
