WZ-112-2

WZ-112-2 is Soviet tank turned Chinese. This tank is basically an IS-3 with a flat upper plate, it has good armour, poor mobility, and the worst 122mm gun among tier 8 heavies. Its quite an all-rounder among its class.

Armour

(The WZ-112-2 in these images is using Enhanced Armour

vs 225mm AP
Upper plate 255-270mm
Lower plate 205mm
Turret 200-500mm

vs 265mm APCR

VS tier 7:
Some tier 7 tanks may struggle to penetrate the lower plate, but if its not angled many tanks can easily penetrate it. If the lower plate is angled then many enemies will need to use premium ammo to penetrate it.

VS tier 8:
Tier 8 tanks won’t struggle to penetrate the lower plate at all, and the upper plate becomes quite weak when when angled downwards (going down a hill), in a facehug, or against premium ammunition.

It can bounce quite easily if angled, so always keep the upper plate angled to enemy tanks.

VS tier 9:
Tier 9 tanks will also have no problem penetrating the lower plate, and the upper plate is easily penetrated by most tier 9 tanks’ premium ammo, even when its angled.
Only the turret remains strong, since other than the left turret cheek (230-260mm thick) and the hatches, its impenetrable to enemy ammo.

Overall the armour is just typical heavy tank design, strong turret, fairly strong upper plate, and decent lower plate. It falls apart when not angled or against premium ammunition though.

Gun

WZ-112-2 has a 122mm gun

-Reload time is 11.8s for 400 alpha, giving it 2036 DPM.
-Penetration is decent, 215mm on standard APCR, 270mm on HEAT, and 61mm on HE.
-Aim time is 5.7/6.1s, which is the longest aim time on any tier 8 tank.
-Dispersion is 0.389/0.350, very poor accuracy, but average for a 122mm.
Gun handling is 0.25/0.25/0.14, or 0.21/0.21/0.12 Vertical Stabilizer
-Gun depression is -6 degrees, which isn’t great.

Overall this gun is the worst 122mm gun on a tier 8 tank (along with IS-5 and 112 Glacial), all other 122mm heavies have either better aim time, dispersion, gun handling, penetration, or damage per shot. Overall the gun misses a lot and isn’t consistent at all, its very un-enjoyable to use.

Mobility

-Top speed is, 42km/h forwards, and an amazing -20km/h in reverse
-Traverse speed is 38.7 deg/s on hard terrain, and 27.7 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In-game acceleration is shown as 14.2 hp/t, with a good 679 horsepower engine for its 48 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration is 14.2 hp/t on hard terrain, and 10.2 hp/t on medium terrain.
Terrain resistances are decent, with 1/1.4/1.8

The mobility looks really good when you view it in game, however when you play the tank or when you look at its medium terrain stats, you realize its quite terrible.
On hard terrain, the tank is quite mobile and it can reach its 42km top speed. On medium terrain, it turns slowly and accelerates slowly, and its very hard to reach the top speed if not going down a hill.
This is one of the least mobile tier 8 heavy tanks that weighs under 80 tons, its extremely slow to turn, reach its top speed, or just to get anywhere on medium terrain.

(Note that hard terrain mobility pretty much doesn’t matter when looking at a tank’s stats. Most maps in game are about 80-90% medium terrain, with a few city maps being exceptions. Hence why this tanks good mobility on hard terrain doesn’t give it a good mobility profile in game.)

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

WZ-112-2 has no special consumables or provisions.

Engine Power Boost consumable:
The 112-2 has a high top speed but it cant really utilize it unless its on a city map. Use this consumable to boost the tank into position early on maps with lots of medium terrain. Or just use it whenever you feel like you need that 42km/h speed to relocate or move the tank.

Gun Rammer:
The reload time of the WZ-112-2 is long, and its penetration is decent. The DPM is fairly low, so the best choice is to use gun rammer so the tank at least has reload time and DPM.

Enhanced armour:
Enhanced armour will allow the WZ-112-2 to be much more effective with its upper and lower plate armour, especially when angling. Without it, the upper plate doesn’t have enough armour to stand up against premium ammo unless you use angling. With enhanced armour, the upper plate can stand up to most premium ammo in tier 8, even when flat. Unless in a facehug or going down a hill, basically no same tier MT, LT, or HT can penetrate the upper plate.

Vertical Stabilizer:
The WZ-112-2 has some of the worst gun stabilization of any tier 8 heavy tank. Not using a vertical stabilizer means that if you play an active, frontline, brawling role (which you should in this tank), you will miss far more shots. Use vertical stabilizer, not refined gun; its a heavy tank, not a sniper.

Gameplay advice

WZ-112-2 has very generic and typical 400 alpha heavy tank gameplay. It plays just like any other tier 8 heavy with a fairly long reload and good alpha.
If you have played any of these tanks: Glacial 112, WZ-111, Obj.252U, IS-3, IS-5, IS-6, T-2020, IS-3 Defender, then you will know exactly how to play this tank.

Play it has a heavy tank with no gun depression and a weak lower plate, and you’ll do fine in this vehicle.

Overall

Armour – 8/10
Gun – 3/10
Mobility – 4/10
Speed – 8.5/10

The WZ-112-2 is overall a decent tank.

Armour is strong, good upper plate and lower plate armour, a strong turret, and good side armour.
Gun has terrible accuracy, aim time, and gun handling. Standard penetration is low, DPM & gun depression are mediocre, alpha damage is good.
Mobility is poor, decent hard terrain performance, but terrible terrain resistances give it slow acceleration and traverse on the most common terrain (medium). Reverse speed is amazing.
Speed is very good at 42km/h.

The WZ-112-2 is a very boring tank. Its definitely not bad, and it can excel in some situations (as can any tank). Its gameplay is very similar to other tanks though, and its not really worth buying if you already have a 122mm heavy tank (or you played the IS-3 and didn’t like it).

Is it worth getting?

If you already have any other 122mm heavy premium tank, (or you have played similar tanks in the tech tree and don’t like them), then its not worth getting this tank.

Even if the above doesn’t apply to you, the playstyle of the 122mm heavy tanks is not a very fun or exciting one. Its very boring and uninteresting heavy tank gameplay, and the gun misses very often which can be frustrating.
If you hate slow tanks or inaccurate tanks, completely avoid this vehicle. All this tank can offer is armour, which is something most heavies already have, so you’re better off going for a tank with either better mobility or gun, maybe even both.

The 112-2 is only really worth getting if you love the 122mm heavy tanks and you like the look of this one; or you don’t have any other tier 8 premium tanks, as this one is fairly simple and easy to play.

The WZ-112-2 is worth 5,000 gold. Many of its competition can be bought for about 5,000 gold, and this tank is often sold for 7,500 gold. Its not worth that price so so be careful you don’t overpay for the WZ-112-2.

Historical note:

The name of this tank is completely made up by WG and is a fake.
This tank is a real vehicle, an IS-3 prototype called the Kirovets-1, its main difference to the early IS-3 was that it had a flat upper plate.
You can also clearly see this in game, if you mount the stock (Kirovets-1) turret of the IS-3, and the 122mm D-25T gun, it looks exactly the same as the WZ-112-2. The only difference being the upper plate.

In real life there was no “version 2” of the 112 heavy tank, and there was no “WZ” designation (it was just called 112, not WZ-112). The actual 112 was essentially a WZ-111, but with a few changes:
1- The gun was to be a 120mm smoothbore cannon, most likely the same gun as the WZ-122-1 (A Chinese MBT which existed at the same time as the 112 concept). There were also plans for a 152mm gun, but this would have been challenging, given the industrial state of China in the 1960s.
2- The upper glacis plate was to be “regular/normal”, it was to be of a flat design, just like a T-62’s upper plate.
3- Suspension was to be changed, road wheels would be reduced to 6, and the return rollers would be removed.

The 112 development evolved into the 113, and there was no “version 2” of the tank, especially not with it going back to an older type of suspension and an outdated gun (ie: the Kirovets-1)
