Armour when facing head on:
Upper plate 280mm
Lower plate 125mm
Turret cheeks 355-385mm
Weakpoint under gun 280mm
Weakpoint next to gun 280mm
Turret rear 200-290mm
Gun mantlet 350-400mm
Side armour:
Hull side armour is 70mm, with 20mm track armour and 10mm spaced side skirts.
Overall its quite poor side armour which can’t be used for angling or sidescraping.

vs 246mm AP (top image), 320mm APCR (bottom image)
Using -8 gun depression:
Upper plate 282mm
Turret cheeks 355-385mm
Weakpoint under gun 290mm
Weakpoint next to gun 280mm
Turret rear 202-330mm
Gun mantlet 350-400mm
Armour vs tier 8 enemies:
Facing tier 8 enemies, the turret and hull have very few weakpoints, even to premium ammo. The main weakpoint will be the “rear” of the turret on the right side, where its a flat 200mm. Its small and hard to hit, so generally won’t be too noticeable.
The lower plate is the only other major weakpoint against tier 8 enemies.
Armour vs tier 9-10 enemies:
Facing tier 9-10 tanks, the main change to armour performance is that the upper plate, turret ring, and a few areas around the gun that are all 280mm thick, will be easily penetrable to nearly all premium ammo you face.
Most of the turret front, and the auto-ricochet areas of the upper plates will still be impenetrable to most enemies unless they use calibrated shells.
Cyclic 480 alpha gun
This gun is a 130mm in caliber.
Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/HEAT/HE.
-Penetration: 255/320/67mm.
-Alpha damage: 480/410/600
-Reload time: 13.4s
-DPM: 2145
Handling:
–Estimated aim time is 4.4/4.7s
–Base aim time is 2.8s, but it can get down to 2.16s.
-Dispersion is 0.362/0.308
–Gun handling is 0.2/0.22/0.15, or 0.18/0.19/0.13 with Vertical Stabilizer.
Usability:
-Shell velocities are 900/700/700 m/s.
-Gun depression is -8 degrees around the entire tank.
Overall this gun is average at best. It has good alpha damage, and relatively average DPM for that. Penetration is pretty good on both standard and premium ammo, the main downside is that accuracy, aim time, and gun handling all combine to give a very derpy and inaccurate feeling gun. -8 gun depression is a nice advantage to have when trading damage and bouncing shots.
2×3 Burst Autoloader gun
This gun is a 130mm autoloader with 2 x 3-shot bursts.
Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/HEAT/HE.
-Penetration: 255/320/67mm.
-Reload time: 18.52s
-DPM: 1962
Burst fire:
-2 shots in the magazine.
-3 shells per shot/burst.
-0.25s intra-burst reload.
-3.00s intra-clip reload
-Damage per 1 burst: 360/300/450
-(Damage per single hit 120/100/150)
-Total damage per magazine: 720/600/900
Overall this gun is almost unusable for tier 9. It has much less DPM than nearly all other tanks in tier 9, with a slow burst-to-damage ratio compared to other autoloaders. Shot effectiveness is also poor as accuracy is bad, aim time is slow, and your damage is split into 6 shots, giving you a high chance of missing at least 1-2 of those shots.
Generally you won’t penetrate all shots in your burst, so end up doing between 120-240 damage per burst, while still having a 3s intra-clip and over 18s reload. The damage output rate of this gun is just abysmal.
Mobility
Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 39km/h.
-Reverse speed is -14km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 14.4 hp/t.
-Engine power is 1121hp for its 78 ton weight.
Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 14.4 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 33.7 deg/s.
Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 9.6 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 22.5 deg/s.
Terrain resistance stats:
–Terrain resistances are 1/1.5/2
Sterope’s mobility performance is massively different between terrain types. On hard terrain its quite mobile, with decent traverse speed and good acceleration. On medium terrain, its very slow, generally it struggles to reach the top speed, and traverse is extremely slow, making you lose speed with even a small turn.
The top forward and reverse speeds are both good for a HT, however the terrible medium terrain resistance means that you lose around 33% of your mobility if not staying on roads.
Another area worth mentioning is the extremely slow turret traverse speed, which is 18.22 degrees/s.
Equipment Loadout
Calibrated Shells – Autoloader gun
The autoloader doesn’t exactly have high DPM or an emphasis to reload quickly. While accuracy stats are poor, the most important thing is that your AP ammo has the highest chance to penetrate the enemy. It will result in less bounces, and less need to use HEAT, giving an overall higher shot effectiveness per reload.
Calibrated shells would increase penetration on AP from 255mm to 275mm, on HEAT from 320mm to 362mm, and on HE from 67mm to 72mm.
Improved Ventilation– Cyclic gun
This gun has more of an argument to use vents, as its much easier to get damage out due to its DPM being decent, and not dealing its damage over 6 shells. Vents help this gun massively by improving many crucial areas in small amounts, including better hull traverse speed, turret traverse speed, aim time, dispersion, and reload time. All these stats make shooting a lot more comfortable due to the derpy and slow nature of the tank.
(Calibrated shells are still a very valid option with this gun, but vents work a lot better with this gun than on the autoloader gun.)
Improved Assembly:
Enhanced armour doesn’t benefit this tank much, as the majority of areas that it would benefit are 280mm thick by default. 280mm is significantly above the penetration level of most tier 8 heavy tanks, and significantly below the penetration all tier 9-10 heavy tanks, meaning that enhancing it really won’t help the tank.
Its better to use improved assembly, which would increase the tank’s base HP from 2100 to 2184.
Vertical Stabilizer/Refined Gun:
Due to this tank having poor aim time, dispersion, and unimpressive gun handling, its worth trying out both of these in battle to see which works better for you. Both equipment prices have advantages on this tank with both guns, but the feeling will differ depending on how you play the game and the tank.
Gameplay with single-shot gun
With this gun, the gameplay is that of an “average heavy” tank. It has decent stats in most areas that a heavy tank should, but no real unique or specialized traits which give it special gameplay.
General gameplay:
Overall just play the tank like you would with any other heavy, try to hide the lower plate whenever possible, use gun depression positions to make use of the turret armour, and trade damage.
Its worth noting that you can’t sidescrape in this tank, its side armour is too weak, so its best to try keep the hull straight-on to enemies in most situations.
Trading damage works well as the 480 alpha will out-trade most enemies you face if you trade shot-for-shot. Just try to avoid letting enemies shoot you twice, as your reload is quite long compared to most other tanks.
Aim shots well:
The cyclic gun of the Sterope feels particularly derpy due to its very slow aim time combined with unimpressive handling. Compared to other tanks with similar alpha (such as E 75, WZ-114, 50TP Tyszkiewicza) it takes a noticeably longer time get aimed in enough to shoot.
Generally it will work best to aim shots fully, as the slow reload and higher alpha do make it worth aiming properly, and a missed shot would be roughly 20% of your DPM lost.
Stay on hard terrain:
Most terrain in game (on most maps) is medium terrain, which is essentially any area that’s not water, not paved, and not a road. Try to stay on roads and paved areas as much as you can, as this is hard terrain.
The Sterope’s terrain resistances of 1 on hard and 1.5 on medium terrain mean that, staying on roads gives you roughly 50% faster traverse and acceleration rate than if you drive on medium terrain. Its a massive increase to mobility, and especially traverse speed (which causes you to lose a ton of speed when turning on medium terrain).
Gameplay with 3×2 autoloader
The gameplay with this gun is more so of a support tank, which is a very odd type of heavy tank, since heavies are meant to be the main damage-soaking and damage-dealing tanks in the battle.
General gameplay:
The positioning and armour use of this tank will remain the same as with the 480 alpha gun, The difference will be with how you use the gun.
Try to avoid trading damage with enemies that you know are reloaded. One burst does 360 damage, which is among the lowest damage of all tier 9 heavy tanks, making it easy for other tanks to out-trade you.
Try not to chase damage with the 2nd burst, a 3s intra-clip may not seem long, but with only 360 damage per burst (120 or 240 if you miss/bounce 1-2 shots), it feels slow. Consider the situation before exposing the tank to shoot again, as unlike other tier 9 autoloaders, the Sterope doesn’t have a high burst damage to be worth trading HP for.
What to aim for to maximize damage:
Prioritize aiming for large, flat armour plates with no spaced armour, it gives you the lowest chance of bouncing shells when shooting the burst.
Flat armour is easier to penetrate but also just easier to hit, which can be an issue since the after-shot-bloom while shooting the 3 shot burst can cause shots to go where you don’t intend.
Spaced armour can cause issues for the same reason, especially on tanks such as the E 100 or IS-7 which are known to have troll spaced armour sections.
Overall
Armour – 5/10
Single-shot gun – 5/10
Burst gun – 2/10
Mobility – 3/10
Speed – 6.5/10
AC Sterope is overall an average/mediocre tank.
Armour is average for a heavy, reliable on upper plate and turret, with only a few weakpoints. Holds up decently to premium ammo, but has weak hull sides.
Single-shot gun is mediocre, low alpha, unimpressive penetration, mediocre gun handling & dispersion. 5 shells and a fast burst/reload are the main redeeming points.
Burst damage gun is terrible, poor accuracy, slow aim time, bad gun handling for its alpha, extremely low DPM, slow intra-clip, and very low damage output. The probability of missing or bouncing is high, reducing your damage further.
Mobility is good on hard terrain, however very poor on medium terrain, with very slow traverse and acceleration rates. Reverse speed is average, at -14km/h.
Speed is good at 39km/h.
Is it worth getting?
AC Sterope really is not worth having.
The best description for it is an “average” heavy tank with unimpressive stats for its class. Its mobility varies enormously between maps and terrain types, the armour is quite reliable (but this is not uncommon with HT), and its single-shot gun trades out quite a lot of accuracy just to have a slight alpha damage advantage over other similar tanks.
The 3×2 burst autoloader isn’t even worth mentioning, as its almost unusable at tier 9, and not even fun to use.
The Sterope is worth 9,000 gold. Its just not a tank that’s really worth having, you can have a similar (but more enjoyable) gameplay feeling from tanks such as the E75 or WZ-114, which are both better tanks with more interesting gameplay.
