Armour

(The Magnate in the images is using Improved Assembly)

vs 180mm AP

When flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 110-210mm
Lower plate 130-145mm
Turret 150-190mm
Gun mantlet 300-400mm
Gun mantlet center 175mm
Cupola 165mm

-Note that the armour profile looks almost the same when faced against premium ammo, hence why no image is shown.

-Also take note of the side armour, its 68mm and is partially angled, so this tank can sidescrape decently.

-The gold pieces on the hull front are 20mm spaced armour, and the “boxes” on the hull side are also 20mm spaced armour.

vs 180mm AP
Using -8 gun depression:

Upper plate 140-220mm
Turret 150-210mm
Gun mantlet 300-400mm
Gun mantlet center 175mm
Cupola 170mm

VS tier 6-7:
Against tier 6 and 7 enemies, the Magnate’s armour is quite troll. Enemies may sometimes bounce off the upper plate, turret sides, or sometimes even off the lower plate.

When using gun depression, you can be fairly confident in bouncing enemies. There are a few weakpoints, but the turret is fairly strong overall, especially if moving back and fourth.

Enemies in these tiers can reliably penetrate the bulge on the turret, which is 110mm, and the middle area of the hull where the upper and lower plates meet, this area is also around 110mm thick.

VS tier 8:
Against tier 8 enemies, the armour will bounce much less. The upper and lower plate will be quite easily penetrated by most tanks in tier 8, the only possibility of bouncing is on the auto-ricochet area right under the gun mantlet.

The turret is also less reliable, even when using gun depression. The only areas where tier 8 enemies may bounce off will be the gun mantlet, as it ranges from 175 up to 400mm of armour.

Gun

The Magnate mounts a 90mm gun

-Alpha damage is 240 on AP, 210 on APCR, and 290 on HE
-It has an 6.1s reload, giving it 2375 DPM
-Penetration on AP is 158mm, APCR is 207mm, and HE is 40mm.
Estimated aim time is 3.7/4.0s
Base aim time is 2.05s, but it can get down to 1.67s.
-Dispersion is 0.326/0.293
Gun handling is 0.2/0.2/0.09, or 0.17/0.17/0.08 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -8 degrees

This is overall a good gun. For a tier 7 medium, this has both a good amount of alpha, and a nice reload with good DPM. The penetration is quite average for a tier 7 medium, and its base aim time and dispersion are both good.
Only the gun handling is poor, and you definitely feel this in battle. The gun feels like it blooms out quite a lot, and thus it takes a while to aim in after moving.

Mobility

-Top speed is 50km/h forwards, and -18km/h in reverse
-Traverse speed is 60.6 deg/s on hard terrain, and 46.7 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 20 hp/t, it has strong 782hp engine for its 39 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 20 hp/t on hard terrain, and 15.4 hp/t on medium terrain.
Terrain resistances are 1/1.3/1.5

While its stats (especially on medium terrain) may not seem impressive, they aren’t bad by any means. The terrain resistance difference of 1 to 1.3 does mean that the mobility on medium terrain is noticeably less than on hard terrain, but its still not terrible.
Overall this mobility is pretty good for a tier 7 medium tank, especially with decent armour. Its acceleration rate and traverse speed feel adequate, and the tank is able to get around the battlefield quite easily.

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

The Magnate doesn’t have any special provisions or consumables.

Gun Rammer:
Magnate is a tier 7 tank, and tier 7 is a tier where most tanks have low penetration but very high DPM.

To fit into this meta, Magnate should be increasing its DPM with gun rammer. Most tier 7 tanks you face will either reload faster or have higher DPM than your tank, gun rammer keeps the Magnate’s gun at a competitive level of reload time and DPM. Due to its 240 alpha, its also got a slight advantage in its damage-per-shot.

Calibrated shells isn’t needed as the Magnate has quite average penetration for its tier, and not bad by any means. However, if you find yourself struggling to penetrate enemies, calibrated shells can still work, especially thanks to the increased alpha of 240. Only do this after playing the tank with gun rammer, as there is no reason to put yourself at a disadvantage in DPM, especially if you haven’t first confirmed that you do actually want higher penetration.

Improved Assembly:
The playstyle of the Magnate is not one which relies on its armour. The armour is there, and it can bounce some shots, but the HP is more helpful on this tank, as the Magnate does not have a playstyle which is armour-reliant.

Magnate’s armour is fairly thin, and uses angling to get bounces, while enhanced armour would make some difference to the armour, its not a significant amount, and its not noticeable. Its also just not needed with this tank’s playstyle.

Improved assembly is the better equipment choice (especially with the stock turret), it increases the Magnate’s HP from 1200 up to 1272.

Vertical Stabilizer:
Due to having very poor dispersion-on-movement (especially for a medium tank), using a vertical stabilizer on this tank is essential.

The accuracy of the Magnate is already quite good at 0.326, so it doesn’t need to be improved using refined gun. Its far better to use vertical stabilizer, as it helps the tank be more consistent and accurate in its active playstyle.

Gameplay advice

The Magnate is quite a standard medium. Its a bit similar to a Panther II or O-47 in its overall stats and nature, as well as its overall gameplay.

General gameplay:
The Magnate is a standard medium tank, so it features quite standard gameplay.

Go to the medium tank side of the map, brawl with enemy mediums, use hulldown positions, flank enemies, etc.
While this tank has some of the better armour for a tier 7 medium tank, try not to rely on this in battle. It won’t work when you want it to work. If you don’t base your gameplay around using the armour, then you will be far more effective. The armour will still bounce shots, and your gameplay will still be just as good.

Use gun depression & hulldown positions:
When the hull is hidden, the turret armour is quite troll to most enemies. The gun mantlet is generally strong, there’s only a weakpoint right in the center (which is not worth aiming for, as its a small target surrounded by strong armour).

When hulldown, try to keep the tank moving back and fourth. This makes it harder for enemies to hit the weakpoints on your turret, and gives a higher chance of you bouncing their shot.

Try to keep these movements relatively small, as in, don’t drive 5m forward and then 5m back. This is because of your tank’s poor gun handling, its actually better to just make smaller movements, so that your gun can still be aimed in quickly.

Sidescrape:
Due to having good side armour with a slight angle, sidescraping does actually work quite well in the Magnate. Be aware that you cannot over-angle the tank at all, and you should immediately pull forward after taking a shot.

Angle and wiggle:
If out in the open, and you have to tank a shot from an enemy, try to wiggle the tank’s hull back and fourth.

This is quite effective on this tank due to the armour highlighting showing quite a lot of red on the hull, so enemies may panic when aiming at your hull and miss. This also helps to bait enemies into accidentally hitting the tracks or side armour, and not penetrating the tank.

Don’t rush shots:
Due to the poor gun handling of this tank, its imperative that you don’t rush shots when you don’t need to. If you can take the time to aim, do it. The aim time is fairly quick, and accuracy is good, so it doesn’t take the gun long to aim each shot in.
If you don’t aim, there’s a good chance that your shot misses or bounces, as the poor gun handling makes your gun bloom out quite a lot during and after movement.

The overall playstyle of the Magnate is quite a standard playstyle for medium tanks. It uses its gun depression and turret armour, it flanks, it uses good accuracy and DPM to take out enemies, and it brawls with other mediums. Play it like a standard medium, and you’ll do well in this tank.

Overall

Overall the Magnate is an great tank. Its unique for a tier 7 medium tank, with an interesting 90mm gun, decent mobility, and some pretty nice and troll armour for a medium tank. Its an all-rounder with some of everything, while also not being a boring tank.
The all-round nature is what makes this quite a strong tank, as not many in tier 7 have that. This tank offers both great DPM and alpha damage, pretty good armour for a medium, and decent mobility.

Its stock form is even decent, considering its a much less painful grind compared to the Fixer. There is brief review of the stock version of the tank below.
The stock tank is a bit slow and has low DPM, but its armour is decent, and the tank is quite usable.

Is it worth it?

Seeing as the Magnate can be achieved for free just by being active in the game, the tank is worth it. As said above, its a good tank with nice stats all-round, while also being quite unique for tier 7.

Medium tank players should really enjoy what this tank offers with its comfortable DPM and alpha, with good mobility and decent armour.

The Magnate is worth 6,000 gold. Its a good tank with a solid standing in the tier 7 meta, its quite standard so its not too hard to play, and its also quite unique in a few aspects of its stats.

Camo cost:

Magnate has a permanent appearance which can’t be adjusted.

Its shown here in the stock configuration.

Stock grind

As you upgrade modules, the stats of each module improves slightly, improvements are not large, they are very gradual.

If you want to check the stats of each module, you can view the tank in-game, or use gamemodels3d or Blitzstars.

Important:
-Only the top turret improves turret armour, all the stock and intermediate turrets have the same armour.
-Stock and top turrets/guns have the same gun depression.
Gun handling does not upgrade with the gun, turret, or tracks.
-The hull doesn’t upgrade, the armour is the same throughout.

Gun:
Penetration is low, aim time is long, accuracy is bad, and DPM is low (but not useless). All these factors are “bad” for tier 7, but not to the point where the tank just doesn’t work. The tank works, but you have to let it aim more, use premium ammo more, be more cautious, etc.
Just a typical “stock gun”.

Turret:
Armour is decent, but its penetrable through the mantlet. HP is very low for a medium, but at least better than a light tank.
This turret still holds up pretty decently in tier 7, but try not to rely on it.

Engine:
Engine power, traverse speed, acceleration, are all decent when the tank has equipment and provisions on. It will feel quite slow (for a medium) due to the poor terrain resistance, but the stock engine’s stats aren’t bad.

Tracks:
Stock tracks are terrible, they give this tank 1.3 terrain resistance on hard terrain, and 1.6 terrain resistance on medium, which is worse performance than a heavy tank. This basically means that your overall mobility performance in battle is not as good as the in-game stats show.

vs 180mm AP

Turret face 148mm

Gun mantlet 220mm

Center of mantlet 110mm

Upgrading:
As said above, upgrading each module improves it slightly. In total there are 4 of each module on this tank. 1 stock module, 2 intermediary modules, and 1 top module for each turret, gun, engine, and tracks.

Each gun upgrade makes it slightly more accurate, higher penetration, quicker reload.
Each turret upgrade gives better view range, HP, and turn rate.
Each engine upgrade improves traverse speed and acceleration rate.
Each track upgrade improves traverse speed and overall mobility performance.

Eventually you get to the top modules, these are the only modules which change in appearance. On the Magnate, the top gun is the only one with increased alpha damage, up to 240, and the top turret has much improved armour over previous turrets.
The engines and tracks are also in their best configuration, so also output the best possible mobility for the tank.
