The O-47 is a fictional tank designed by Kunio Okawara. In game, its a Jack-of-all-trades type medium tank. Its good at everything, bad at nothing, which makes it fairly a un-interesting but good tank.

Armour
(The O-47in the images is using Enhanced Armour)

vs 225mm AP (left image), vs 265mm APCR (right image)
When flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 180-200mm
Viewports below turret 61mm
Lower plate 160mm
Turret face 320mm
Turret wings 188mm

vs 225mm AP
Using -8 gun depression
Upper plate 240-260mm
Viewports below turret 68mm
Lower plate 160mm
Turret face 325mm
Turret wings 196mm
Note where the penetration marks are
Weakpoints:
O-47 has a fairly intimidating armour profile, especially to lower penetration tanks, however there are some unexpected weakpoints which players just don’t seem to aim at when shooting this tank.
Above the upper plate:
The viewport area right under the gun mantlet and on the roof of the hull is a very weak area, and any player can penetrate this as its only 60mm of armour.
Turret wings:
These are still fairly strong, about 188mm of armour, however, other than this the turret has no other real weakpoint. Both the left and right turret wing are properly modelled and every shot you shoot with will penetrate them (given that you have enough penetration).
There is also a hatch right on the center of the turrret, but this is quite troll. Its covered by spaced armour, whichs extra thickness, and you cant see the hatch. To hit it, you have to shoot very low on that spaced armour plate; its a rather unreliable and troll weakpoint, so its best to just shoot the wings on the side.
VS tier 7:
Tier 7 tanks will struggle against the O-47’s armour. Other than extremely high penetration heavies (USA, French, & German), most tanks don’t have enough standard penetration to go through the hull of the O-47.
However if the tank turns, then the closest angle of the upper plate becomes penetrable.
The turret will be completely impervious to standard ammo of tier 7 mediums, and some tier 7 heavies, however most enemies will be able to penetrate the “wings” using premium ammunition.
VS tier 8:
Most tier 8 tanks will fairly easily be able to penetrate the O-47. Only tanks with under 190mm of standard penetration will struggle against the hull armour and the wings on the turret.
Tanks with higher than 200mm of penetration will be able to penetrate the turret wings and upper plate reliably (when on flat ground).
VS tier 9:
Tier 9 tanks will easily cut through the entirety of this tank’s frontal armour. The only area that will show up red is the turret face/gun mantlet.
The upper plate and turret “wings” are both weak and easily penetrable.

vs 192mm AP
192mm AP is equivalent to what most lower penetration tanks have in tier 8, such as on many medium and light tanks. High penetration tier 7 heavies and tank destroyers (or mediums and lights on premium ammo) will also have roughly this level of penetration.
The hull has decent armour against these enemies, but if you know where to aim there are weakpoints.
Gun
The O-47 mounts a 90mm gun
-Alpha damage is 240 on AP, 190 on APCR, and 270 on HE
-Reload time is 6.0s, giving it 2408 DPM
-Penetration is 190mm on AP, 260mm on HEAT, and 45mm on HE
–Estimated aim time is 3.4s/3.7s
–Base aim time is 2.1s, but it can get down to 1.71s.
-Dispersion is 0.317/0.285
–Gun handling is 0.14/0.14/0.08, or 0.12/0.12/0.07 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -8 degrees
Overall the gun of the O-47 is reliable. It doesn’t really stand out in DPM, but its not bad; its penetration is quite good; overall handling is quite good, and gun depression is quite good. Its able to easily hit and penetrate its shots to do consistent, reliable damage.
(For some reason, this gun feels even more accurate than its stats seem to show. This is just an observation from gameplay.)
Note that while the 240 alpha on AP is very comfortable with its reload, the alpha damage of 190 on HEAT and 270 on HE are both below average, so its best to try use AP as much as possible.
Mobility
-Top speed is 55km/h forwards, and -20km/h in reverse
-Traverse speed is 61.2 deg/s on hard terrain, and 56.1 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 20.9 hp/t, it has a strong 771hp engine for its 37 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 19 hp/t on hard terrain, and 17.4 hp/t on medium terrain.
–Terrain resistances are 1.1/1.2/1.5
Overall the O-47 is a fairly mobile tank. It has great top speed and traverse speed. The acceleration is good, but nothing record breaking. This is a fairly average/standard mobility profile for a medium tank.
Equipment, provisions, & consumables
O-47 has no special consumables or provisions
Gun Rammer:
Even though the O-47 has fairly mediocre standard penetration, it has great HEAT penetration of 260mm, so it doesn’t need calibrated shells.
It’s better to use the gun rammer, as even though the DPM isn’t bad, it’s also not the highest (especially compared to tanks like Indien Panzer or Centurion 1).
Gun rammer gives the O-47 a 6s reload and 2408 DPM with its 240 alpha, which will help it to compete with the high DPM of other mediums with similar guns in tier 8.
Improved Assembly/Enhanced Armour:
Both enhanced armour and improved assembly can be useful on the O-47.
Enhanced armour would mainly be improving the upper plate armour, and the wings on the turret. This makes it stronger when facing lower-penetration enemies; however it won’t make any difference when facing tanks with over 210mm penetration. Though on the medium tank flank, about half of tier 8 mediums have under 210mm penetration, and all tier 7 mediums have under 175mm.
Improved assembly would give this tank higher HP, improving it from 1350 up to 1431.
Both have benefits on the tank, so its up to you which piece of equipment you take.
Vertical Stabilizer:
The O-47 is a medium tank that plays with a fairly active role, and will be constantly moving in battle. The dispersion of the O-47 is also already very good, so using vertical stabilizer has a more noticeable effect on the tank than refined gun does.
Vertical stabilizer will improve the fairly unimpessive gun handling of the O-47, and allow it to be more accurate on the move and when aiming in after it stops moving.
Gameplay advice
The O-47 is the very definition of “medium tank”. It is just medium, in absolutely every statistical area. This makes the O-47 a great all-rounder tank that is pretty good at doing everything, but not the best at doing anything (as in, it doesn’t specialize its stats in any area).
General gameplay:
Since the O-47 is one of the most standard mediums you can play, it should be quite easy to get the hang of if you’ve played a medium tank before.
Basically, the main points to playing a generic medium tank (O-47) are:
-Use gun depression and never sit still on a ridgeline, always be moving back and fourth so enemies bounce off the turret or miss
-Flank around enemies when possible
-Hide the hull behind cover, even on flat ground (go hulldown)
-Go to the medium tank flank, don’t camp, don’t go with the heavies (unless you are alone).
-Try to trade 2 shots for 1 against slower reloading enemies (shoot twice for every time the enemy shoots you once).
The O-47 is just a generic medium, the stock standard, the textbook definition. So you can play it as that. If you have played any medium tank in WoT Blitz ever, you will feel that this tank is comfortable. It has enough of everything for you to be able to do consistently well in.
Even if you are a player who has never touched a medium tank before, there really is no better tank to learn medium tank gameplay with than the literal textbook definition of a medium tank: the O-47.
Overall
Overall, the O-47 is a good tank. Its good at literally everything: DPM, accuracy, penetration, top speed, traverse speed, acceleration, hull armour, turret armour, gun depression, alpha damage; all of these stats are good on this tank, but none stand out as super impressive. As a “Jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none”, its just good in every regard, but not amazing in any regard.
Being a textbook definition medium tank is not a bad thing. It means it has good stats in every aspect and area of the tank, so its just an ultimate tool of reliability. It can perform well in nearly any situation as it just has the tools to do so.
Though, this reliability comes at the cost of being unique or interesting. Overall, as the tank is just an all-rounder, it means its gameplay is not particularly exciting or interesting. Generally, less-well rounded tanks have more interesting gameplay, even if they are statistically weaker or worse.
Is it worth getting?
The O-47 is worth getting for every player. If you like the tank’s unique look and camo; if you are a player who needs a tank to grind credits; if you are a player who is new to playing medium tanks; or you just think this looks like a cool and cheap tier 8 tank you want to get; then it is worth getting.
The only players who should really just avoid this tank are the ones with other tier 8 premiums which you think are more fun for you as a player.
The O-47 is worth is because it is usually sold for quite cheap, and because the tank itself is actually quite good, and a very reliable vehicle. Its one downside is just it being very generic and plain in terms of gameplay, so its not the most exciting vehicle to play, even if its good.
O-47 is worth 6,500 gold. A statistically good tank, and thus its worth a decent amount of gold. Don’t pay more than this amount though, other than its unique look there isn’t anything much on the O-47 that makes it worth more than 6,500 gold.
Most recently sold for:
5,500 gold (Tank only) – February 2021
5,500 gold (Tank only) – October 2022
Camo cost:

“Mecha Phoenix” camo: 2D, costs 1,450 gold.
Historical note:
O-47 was designed by Kunio Okawara specifically for WoT Blitz. Kunio Okawara is a mechanical designer in the Japanese Anime industry, hence the O-47’s somewhat Gundam style of design and its camo being named “Mecha Phoenix”.
“It was an honor for us to work with Okawara-san on the O-47 project,” said Ozan Kocoglu, General Manager APAC, Wargaming. “He’s an industry pioneer—the father of mecha. Through this collaboration, World of Tank Blitz players will get some truly fascinating content that leverages the talent of Japanese games and anime.”
“I’m happy to introduce the first mecha tank to World of Tanks Blitz,” said Kunio Okawara. “Working as designer for a game was a truly interesting experience. I tried to create something that fits into the game world seamlessly, and am proud to be the first to design a tank for World of Tank Blitz under the Artist’s Signature initiative.”
