Drag slider <- left to view 265mm APCR
Armour when facing head on:
Upper plate 290mm
Lower plate 120mm
Turret face 180-240mm
Turret cheeks 295-360mm
Cupola 90-100mm
Side armour:
Side armour is 60mm, with a 20mm spaced armour plate. This is decent and usable for sidescraping, as long the tank isn’t over angled, and enemies can’t hit the track wheel.
Armour Performance:
Strong areas:
-The angled turret cheeks are very thick and will reliably bounce all standard ammo and most premium ammo.
-The upper plate is very narrow and sharply angled, making it reliable at bouncing most standard ammo, but tier 9 premium ammo can generally go through.
Main weakpoints:
-The flat turret front is weak to most enemies, the only enemies who will bounce off are tier 7 tanks due to low penetration. Don’t expect to bounce any tank with 190mm penetration or more.
-The lower plate is very large and weak, its penetrable by anything and susceptible to HESH shells.
Gun
Prowler mounts a 120mm gun.
Firepower:
-Ammo: AP/APCR/HE.
-Penetration: 217/262/60mm.
-Alpha damage: 420/360/530
-Reload time: 11.7s
-DPM: 2154
Handling:
โEstimated aim time is 4.7/4.9s
โBase aim time is 2.55s, but it can be improved to 1.96s
-Dispersion is 0.344/0.292
โGun handling is 0.26/0.22/0.18, or 0.23/0.19/0.16 with Vertical Stabilizer.
Usability:
-Shell velocities are 920/1100/800 m/s.
-Gun depression is -7 degrees around the entire tank, except the rear where its -5 degrees.
Overall this is a decent gun, while aim time and gun handling are both mediocre at best, its made up for by having pretty good accuracy (0.34 compared to usual 0.38-0.39), and good DPM for its 420 damage (around 150-250 more than other 400-420 guns). Penetration & gun depression are also decent.
The main thing to note with this gun is that you have to stop to aim shots, the tank is fast but the gun aims slow, and doesn’t do well if it doesn’t properly aim.
Mobility
(The stats below are with 6% Gear Oil equipped.)
Raw stats:
-Forward speed is 46km/h.
-Reverse speed is -14km/h.
-Raw acceleration rate is 17.6 hp/t.
-Engine power is 968hp for its 55 ton weight.
Hard terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 17.6 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 48 deg/s.
Medium terrain mobility:
-Actual acceleration is 13.5 hp/t.
-Traverse speed is 36.9 deg/s.
Terrain resistance stats:
–Terrain resistances are 1/1.3/1.8
Overall this is incredible mobility for a heavy tank. It has a very high top speed, almost close to that of medium tanks, along with insanely fast traverse speed for a heavy tank. Acceleration is also good, but on medium terrain it will struggle to reach its top speed unless going slightly downhill.
(Even if you consider it without gear oil, its still far above the average level of HT mobility.)
Special Mechanics
The Prowler has 3 mechanics:
Combat Stabilization – When the tank is moving slower than 15km/h, it improves gun handling from0.26/0.22/0.18 to 0/0/0.18, making it much more accurate at low speeds.
Reserve Track – Allowing the tank to continue reversing when the track is destroyed, useful for when you are already reversing into cover and get tracked.
Track regenerator – Making the track repair speed extremely fast, around 2.5/3s compared to the normal 5-6s that other tanks have.
Consumables & Provisions
Prowler has access to all special consumables & provisions.
Improved engine boost, Tungsten shells, & Adrenaline are all very viable options on the Prowler as they play into its role very well. Engine boost helps to reach positions early & really take advantage of the high top speed, while Tungsten & Adrenaline help with damage trading.
Multi-Purpose repair kit must be used in any consumable setup, as its mandatory for tank repairs & crew injuries.
Reticle calibration is a more niche consumable but can still be useful for some situations, especially due to Prowler’s mediocre aim time.
Reactive Armour is the only consumable which shouldn’t really be used on this tank, as the Prowler is a lighter armoured heavy tank, not playing the role of a damage soaker.
6% Gear oil, 10% Fuel, & 10% food should be the provision setup for the Prowler. This perfectly takes advantage of the high level of mobility of the tank, and crucially improves the terrible reverse speed of the tank.
Improved Gunpowder and Sandbag Armour provisions should not be used on this tank. Prowler already has good shell velocity, and its not the type of tank to need high HP, as its not an armour-based heavy, but is more of a heavium.
Equipment Loadout
Gun Rammer:
As Prowler has good penetration overall, it generally doesn’t need to use calibrated shells. Gun rammer gives this tank a nice combination of high alpha & decent DPM which no other tier 8 heavy tank has.
Gun rammer would improve reload time from 12.3s to 11.8s, and increase DPM from 20 to 2154.
Improved Assembly:
Enhanced armour isn’t worth using on this tank as it’s not an armour-focused tank, and has barge weakpoints in its armour. Hence using improved assembly is generally the better choice. it would increase HP from 1700 to 1768.
Vertical Stabilizer:
Vertical stabilizer works well on this tank due to the poor on-move dispersion of the Prowler, combined with the fact it has a very good 0.344 dispersion (for this level of alpha damage).
Gameplay advice
Overall gameplay of Prowler is very unique for tier 8, its most comparable to a heavy tank version of the Chimera, or a less armoured but more accurate IS-5.
General gameplay:
The Prowler should be played as a heavium tank, a heavy tank with some traits of a medium. As the Prowler is very quick for a HT, it can often be used to spearhead pushes on the medium flank and quickly break through due to its high alpha damage and higher HP. The great mobility allows it to keep up with the pace of the medium flank.
Prowler can still be played on the heavy flank, but its lower HP and weaker turret armour cause it to be more of a challenge, as it will have to rely mainly on its gun & good positioning to avoid taking hits.
Go hulldown:
Despite its large turret face weakpoint, its still worth going hulldown, as it hides the large lower plate weakpoint and it makes it easier to bait enemies into missing.
Try to not just sit still while hulldown, as enemies will be able to easily aim in on the turret front and go right through. Turning the hull & turret left/right slightly can cause enemies to have a hard time aiming at the weakpoints.
Trading damage:
Use the high alpha damage of this tank to trade with enemies. Trade shot-for-shot, and don’t try to out-DPM your enemies. Despite having good DPM for a 420 alpha gun, for a tier 8 tank its still much lower than most mediums and lower alpha heavies, so trying to out-DPM enemies won’t work well.
Use the consumables wisely:
The consumables of the Prowler have a big impact on how the tank plays and what it can achieve in battle, but have a long cooldown, so its best to save them for the right situations.
Improved engine boost should be used for getting into dominant positions at the beginning of the battle before enemy tanks, or for getting out of bad situations to retreat (especially in reverse due to the Prowler’s bad reverse speed).
Reactive Armour should be used in situations where you’re going to take damage from multiple enemies, or are in a 1v1 situation.
Tungsten shells can be used in any situation as long as you can hit an enemy. It boosts the alpha damage up from 420 to 480, so its useful for trading damage or confirming kills.
Reticle calibration should be used for situations where you don’t have time to aim on an enemy, and need to snap in a shot quickly for damage.
Overall
Armour โ 4/10
Gun โ 6/10
Mobility โ 8/10
Speed โ 8/10
Prowler is overall a good tank.
Armour is not great for a HT, but not terrible. The turret is weak at the very front, but has strong cheeks, and the upper plate is strong. Lower plate is large & weak, sides are relatively thin.
Gun has great alpha damage (420), good DPM, & good penetration. Accuracy, aim time, & gun handling are unimpressive but not terrible.
Mobility is great, with high acceleration rate & the amazing traverse speed, however reverse speed is very slow.
Speed is very good, 43km/h base, up to 47/49km/h.
Is it worth getting?
Prowler is definitely worth getting as its a very unique tank. Generally heaviums with such high top speed are quite uncommon, but the Prowler also has every consumable & provision, which makes it very unique to play, as it can be set up in different loadouts.
Even without considering these, the high alpha combined with high rate of speed makes the Prowler a very interesting tank among tier 8 heavies.
The Prowler is worth 8,500 gold. Its a tank with very one-of-a-kind playstyle and characteristics. Overall a good tank which can have quite an influence due to its agility and medium-like traits.
