This penetration level represents a tier 8 medium tank view.
Armour when flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 175-210mm
Lower plate 125mmÂ
Turret cheeks 250-300mm (weakest point 205mm)
Gun mantlet 245mm
Cupolas 160-190mm

Drag slider right -> to view 155mm AP
Drag slider <- left to view 194mm APCR
This penetration level represents a tier 7 medium tank view.
Side armour:
The Schwarzpanzer’s side armour is 60mm above the tracks, and 50mm behind the tracks. This means that it can’t sicescrape or angle, but is not extremely prone to just all HE shells.
Armour vs tier 7 tanks:
Against tier 7 tanks, the Schwarzpanzer has good armour. The upper plate is strong enough to bounce most enemies, even when not angled. Against higher penetration levels, angling the hull will ensure upper plate bounces, but then the side becomes penetrable.
The turret is very strong, most tanks can’t even penetrate it with premium ammo too well, however high penetration enemies (such as with 240mm+ premium ammo) can penetrate the turret cheeks.
Armour vs tier 8 tanks:
Against tier 8 enemies, the hull is quite weak. You’ll only bounce enemy shots if you are using gun depression, or if the enemy has low penetration and you angle the hull. Any enemy with more than 185-190mm of AP penetration will be able to penetrate the hull reliably on flat ground even when its angled.
The turret is very reliable against tier 8 standard ammo, however there are small weakpoints right next to the gun mantlet. Premium ammo from almost any tank can penetrate through the cheeks or gun mantlet fairly easily.
Armour vs tier 9 tanks:
Facing higher tier enemies, the hull has no armour whatsoever. The turret armour is decent against mediums, but you have to watch out for ones with higher penetration (such as the Centurion 7/1 or Leopard PTA) which can penetrate the turret even with AP. Don’t rely on armour at all against higher tier heavy tanks, since their penetration is high.
Gun
The Schwarzpanzer 58 mounts a 9cm (90mm) gun.
-Alpha damage is 230 on AP, 195 on APCR, and 280 on HE.
-It has a 5.8s reload, giving it 2359 DPM.
-Penetration on AP is 202mm, APCR is 245mm, and HE is 45mm.
–Estimated aim time is 3.2/3.4s.
–Base aim time is 2s, but it can get down to 1.54s.
-Dispersion is 0.330/0.281
–Gun handling is 0.16/0.14/0.06, or 0.14/0.12/0.05 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -9 degrees.
Overall this is a decent gun, nothing special. Its penetration is fairly average, its alpha damage is 5 more than most 90mm guns, its accuracy isn’t anything special but isn’t terrible, and same for its aim time. Gun handling is fairly mediocre as well, but its also not terrible.
The DPM is decent, but also nothing special.
Overall the gun doesn’t feel like anything special due to just having quite average/mediocre stats in most areas.
Mobility
-Top speed is 48km/h forwards, and -18km/h in reverse.
-Traverse speed is 67.4 deg/s on hard terrain, and 51.8 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 18.8 hp/t, it has a decent 713 horsepower engine for its 38 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 18.8 hp/t on hard terrain, and 14.5 hp/t on medium terrain.
–Terrain resistances are 1/1.3/1.7
Overall this is mediocre mobility. Both top forward and reverse speed are slightly below average. Hard terrain acceleration & traverse are good, but medium terrain performance is very unimpressive. Terrain resistances are also below average, with 1.3 on medium terrain which causes the tank to slow down very noticeably when not driving on roads.
Provision & consumable loadout
Schwarzpanzer 58 has sandbag armour provisions and the reticle calibration consumable.
Provisions:
Use 10% food to improve the tank’s general performance, especially with DPM, reload time, and dispersion/aim time.
Use 10% fuel to improve the mobility, this is very much needed due to the mediocre mobility of the Schwarzpanzer.
Use 6% sandbag armour to increase the tank’s hitpoints by 82, this is important just for surviving longer in battle to be able to deal more damage & win battles.
Consumables:
Use reticle calibration, this is important for taking crucial shots where you don’t have much time to aim, or just for ensuring your shot hits a small weakpoint.
Use the multi-purpose-restoration pack, this is needed for any tank repairs in battle.
Use adrenaline, this gives the tank a faster reload, which can be useful in many situations.
If you play the tank and you feel that you need an extra repair kit due to constantly damaged modules, then drop one of the consumables, and use the small repair kit.
Equipment loadout
Gun Rammer:
Despite having unimpressive penetration, its still not bad at all, in fact is a fairly normal penetration level for tier 8. While calibrated shells would help to increase your penetration, in many cases its not necessary, especially when you can activate reticle calibration and use it to easily hit weakpoints.
The Schwarzpanzer’s DPM is less impressive for the tier, compared to its penetration, so lowering its DPM by not using gun rammer would cause you to struggle, especially with a fairly low 230 alpha damage.
Gun rammer would increase DPM from 2241 up to 2359, and improve reload time from 6.2s down to 5.8s.
Improved Assembly/Enhanced Armour:
Enhanced armour does help this tank’s armour, most notably on the hull when fighting tier 7 enemies, or low penetration tier 8 mediums (such as ones with 180-185mm penetration). Use enhanced armour if you want to bounce more shots form these enemies.
Improved assembly stacks with the sandbag armour provision, when used together it puts the Schawzpanzer on par with the higher HP mediums in tier 8 (1507 HP). However if you don’t use sandbag armour, improved assembly on its own would increase the HP from 1370 up to 1425.
Vertical Stabilizer/Refined Gun:
Both of these are valid choices, as neither the gun handling nor the dispersion of the Schwarzpanzer is anything too special.
With vertical stabilizer you can improve the tanks gun handling and its effective aim time, letting you aim in on targets a bit faster.
With refined gun you can improve the gun’s dispersion, making it more accurate and better for snapping in shots
Gameplay advice
The Schwarzpanzer’s gameplay is nothing special, its just that of a regular, generic medium tank.
General gameplay:
This tank works well on the medium flank, playing in areas where it can use the good -9 gun depression and turret armour.
Be aware of your DPM when fighting enemies. A lot of tier 8 tanks which have lower alpha damage than you (220-225) have a faster reload and higher DPM. Ideally against these enemies you don’t want to get into a situation where you can’t avoid their faster reload.
On the other hand, mediums with a higher 240 alpha also have better DPM & reload than you (for example, Kpz. 07 RH, Panzer 58, Indien Panzer, O-47). These enemies are even more dangerous since they have both a better reload time and better damage trading capacity than you.
Due to being a very similar playstyle to just a generic medium tank, this tank’s gameplay should be quite easy to get used to for most players. Just play it like you would play other mediums with similar alpha damage, and you’ll be able to do well in it.
Go hulldown & use gun depression:
Due to its pretty good turret armour and rounded shape, the Schwarzpanzer 58 excels in hulldown positions where it can hide the relatively weak hull. Using gun depression on top of that will allow you to increase the turret and hull armour of the tank, which would let you resist higher penetration levels.
Using the terrain to your advantage will help to hold positions but also to increase your survivability in battle, as you won’t be taking damage as often.
However, try to avoid just sitting still while in such positions. Keep making small movements and pull beck into cover when you are reloading, since if you just sit still, it gives enemies an easy chance to aim for your weakpoints or use premium ammo.
Stay on hard terrain:
Due to having a terrain resistance difference of 1 -> 1.3 from hard to medium terrain, the Schwarzpanzer is noticeably slower on medium terrain.Â
While its base mobility on hard terrain is ok, its nothing special, which causes the tank to be really quite unimpressive when it goes onto medium terrain.
To avoid just having worse mobility, try to stay on hard terrain (any area which is a road, paved, or is concrete), and avoid medium terrain if possible (which is just any off-road area).
Don’t attempt sidescraping:

Despite showing up as “red” the side armour is penetrable to almost any tank if they hit the tracks.
Use reticle calibration:
This consumable will greatly boost your accuracy and gun handling, taking your gun from having 0.330 dispersion with 1.54s aim time; down to having 0.231 dispersion with 1.27s aim time.
Activating this consumable allows you to be pinpoint accurate, and it massively makes up for the fairly average penetration (which is noticeably less than this tank’s competitor, Panzer 58). It allows you to easily snap in shots when you don’t have much time to aim, and lets you take some important shots at crucial moments in a close battle.
Overall the Schwarzpanzer 58 plays just like a typical medium tank, using the usual positions to go hulldown and try to use the turret armour.
Overall
Armour – 6/10
Gun – 5/10
Mobility – 4.5/10
Speed – 4.5/10
Schwarzpanzer 58 overall a good tank.
Armour is good against tier 7s, average against tier 8s, and mediocre against tier 9s. Upper plate won’t bounce tier 8-9 enemies, but turret is fairly strong, sides are weak & HESH protection is poor.
Gun is average in all regards. Average penetration, DPM, aim time, dispersion, reload time, and 230 alpha. Gun handling is slightly below average, gun depression is -9 degrees.
Mobility is mediocre. On hard terrain its good, however poor medium terrain resistance mean that mostly acceleration & traverse speed are slow, and struggle to reach top speed. Reverse speed is good at -15km/h.
Speed is below average, at 48km/h.
This tank is between “decent” and “good”, despite nearly all of its stats being just worse than its competitors in tier 8, the tank still performs well in battle, and the better hull & turret armour compared to the regular Panzer 58 do offer it opportunities to do very well.
Is it worth getting?
While on paper this tank looks like just a worse version of the regular Panzer 58 that just has some more turret armour, in actuality its a pretty decent tank.
In terms of if its worth it or not, its not so much. The gameplay of this tank is quite generic, being comparable to tanks like the T25 Pilot 1 or the M26 Pershing. The tank isn’t really too unique in terms of how it plays nor too interesting in its gameplay, however its not a bad tank.
The Schwarzpanzer 58 is worth 5,500 gold. Its a not a bad tank, it has some good traits which make it a consistent and comfortable vehicle to use, and in general is a decent to good performer.
