When flat and facing head-on:
Upper plate 220-230mm
Upper plate edges 235-300mm+
Lower plate 130mm
Lower plate bottom 180mm auto-ricochet
Gun mantlet 235-445mm
Turret cheeks weakest points 185-215mm (upper areas/roof 260-300mm+)
Note that while the armour numbers here look very impressive, the actual performance in game is less so. Shell normalization of AP and APCR causes the effective angle to be reduced, hence reducing armour effectiveness. This is why the 205mm AP shell can penetrate armour that is 220mm-230mm thick.

Using -6 gun depression:
Upper plate 290-340mm
Turret 185-215mm+ (upper areas 235-280mm+)

This penetration level shows what a tier 7 heavy tank would see, or a lower penetration tier 8 MT/LT (which can have between 170-190mm on standard ammo).

Side armour:
The ST-62 has 50mm of upper side armour (the angled area above the tracks), 60mm of middle side armour (the flat area behind the top of the track), and 40mm of lower side armour (the angled part behind the wheels).
The only area of the ST-62’s sides which is actually effective for bouncing, is the 50mm of upper angled side armour. The other areas of side armour are much less likely to bounce, as the 20mm tracks cause double overmatch to occur.
Armour vs tier 7 tanks:
When facing tier 7 enemies, the ST-62 has armour equivalent to a tier 7 heavy tank. Its overall strong and will give tier 7’s quite a hard time to deal with it.
The upper plate is strong, all enemies would need premium ammo to go through reliably, and it will even stand up to most premium ammo from medium tanks.
The turret front is also strong and has similar performance to the hull: it bounces standard ammo, but premium ammo can penetrate.
(Due to it being flatter with higher base thickness, mediums can penetrate the turret more reliably then the hull.)
Armour vs tier 8 tanks:
Against tier 8 enemies the armour is less reliable. The upper plate and turret are penetrable to most heavy tanks (due to their higher standard penetration), and some high penetration mediums (tanks with over 205mm AP).
The hull and turret are still very strong against lower penetration level tanks, so most mediums and lights which have 170-200mm standard penetration will struggle much more against the ST-62’s armour.
Premium ammo of any tier 8 tank can easily penetrate the ST-62 on flat ground. If using gun depression, the upper plate can bounce nearly all enemies, but there are still turret weakpoints.
Armour vs tier 9 tanks:
Armour performance against tier 9 tanks is further reduced as tier 9 tanks have significantly higher penetration.
Other than on the auto-ricochet areas of the tank (turret roof, upper plate edges, turret edges), tier 9 enemies won’t bounce off any part of the armour.
The most effective use of armour in a tier 9 battle is to use gun depression, this makes the upper plate very strong, though the turret will still be penetrable.
Gun
The ST-62 Ver. 2 mounts a 100mm gun
-Alpha damage is 280 on AP, 240 on APCR, and 350 on HE
-It has a 7.2s reload, giving it 2347 DPM
-Penetration on AP is 185mm, APCR is 240mm, and HE is 42mm.
–Estimated aim time is 3.4/3.7s
–Base aim time is 2.3s, but it can get down to 1.87s.
-Dispersion is 0.326/0.293
–Gun handling is 0.12/0.12/0.08, or 0.1/0.1/0.07 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -6 degrees.
Overall this is a good gun. The only real downsides of this gun are its unimpressive gun depression, and its mediocre penetration. Other than these, the accuracy is good, aim time is decent, and gun handling is great. The combination of good alpha, DPM, and a fairly decent reload, make damage dealing comfortable and flexible.
Note that while -6 gun depression isn’t great, its still usable. This is enough to make the armour of the tank really annoying to deal with, and generally doesn’t hinder the tank, as long as you use the right positions.
Something else to note is the shell drop off, which is 12.43% on AP (loses 5.75mm penetration at 200m), and 11.25% on APCR (loses 6.75mm at 200m). These cause the unimpressive penetration of the tank to really perform quite badly at longer distances.
Mobility
-Top speed is 53km/h forwards, and -18km/h in reverse.
-Traverse speed is 58.4 deg/s on hard terrain, and 48.7 deg/s on medium terrain.
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 20.5 hp/t, it has a strong 688 horsepower engine for its 33 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 20.5 hp/t on hard terrain, and 17.1 hp/t on medium terrain.
–Terrain resistances are 1/1.2/1.5
Overall this is decent mobility, but nothing special. The hard terrain performance is quite good, especially for the troll armour of the tank, it accelerates quickly and can reach its top speed without issue. On medium terrain the mobility is still decent, but its noticeably more difficult to reach the top speed of the tank, with the tank usually staying between 40km and 50km of speed.
Equipment, provisions, & consumables
The ST-62 Ver. 2 does not have any special provisions or consumables.
Gun Rammer:
With the good accuracy and handling of this tank, it generally doesn’t struggle to penetrate enemies. You also don’t have access to good HEAT or HE ammo, so the benefit you gain from using calibrated shells is much less impactful.
Gun rammer is generally a better choice, as it allows you to brawl well (which this tank needs due to its armour), and gives the ST-62 a very comfortable DPM/reload/alpha combination. Gun rammer lowers the reload time from 7.7s down to 7.2s, and increase the DPM from 2183 to 2347.
Enhanced Armour:
ST-62 is a tank which is all about its weird and troll armour profile. If not using equipment to focus on this armour, then there’s not much point to play this tank.
Enhanced armour makes a noticeable difference on the ST-62’s armour, especially on the upper plate.
It would improve:
-Upper plate from 220mm to 229mm (weakest point).
-Turret front from 185mm to 192mm (weakest point)
Notice in the comparison below, the most notable difference is on the upper plate, but also it helps the turret cheeks.

Vertical Stabilizer:
Due to the good handling of the ST-62, it could also use refined gun and work well, however as this tank isn’t really a passive tank or a sniper medium, refined gun doesn’t provide it as much benefit as vertical stabilizer.
Vertical stabilizer is needed as the ST-62 is often in mid to close ranges, brawling with enemies, or constantly turning/moving to use its armour. The vertical stabilizer helps to improve the accuracy during these movements, making the gun more consistent.
Gameplay advice
ST-62’s gameplay isn’t much different to a regular, standard medium tank, since has many traits of a standard medium tank.
There are a few caveats to its gameplay due to the armour of the tank, but other than that the ST-62 can play a fairly usual MT role.
General gameplay:
Take the ST-62 to the MT flank. This is an armour focussed tank, and since medium and light tanks have less penetration, the MT flank is where your armour will be the most effective.
Try to avoid areas which require good gun depression, instead use areas which can accommodate less gun depression, and have flatter terrain with hulldown positions. Also note the rear mounted turret of the ST-62, so gun depression positions can be awkward of not driving sideways or reversing into position (see here).
Always be angling and wiggling the hull of the ST-62, it can really throw off the enemy’s aim and make them less confident in aiming for an area. The constantly changing armour angles also make it easier to bait shots onto a red area or the tracks.
Do your best to avoid brawling with high penetration tanks. If you have a situation where you can choose to push an enemy, or you can remain passive, note the enemy’s penetration level. If its a tank like the Indien Panzer, its best to remain passive, since your armour just won’t work as well against the 212mm AP of the Indien Panzer. If its a tank such as the T-44, you could push more confidently, as their 180mm penetration would really struggle against the ST-62’s armour.
Go hulldown/use gun depression:
While you don’t have much gun depression, using it makes the armour of the upper plate extremely effective.
Using the full -6 degrees makes the upper plate an auto-ricochet angle, meaning all AP & APCR rounds bounce off; and the upper plate would be around 295mm thick, forcing any enemy you face to load gold to have a chance to penetrate it (and tier 7-8 tanks don’t even have that much penetration).
This strong upper plate forces enemies to aim for the turret, which is small and at the back of the hull.
Going hulldown also greatly helps the tank, as the weakest part of the ST-62’s armour is the lower plate, and enemies default to aiming for this on an enemy tank. Hiding this area forces enemies to shoot the stronger parts if your armour, or load premium ammo.
Sidescrape and angle:
Despite the ST-62 having weak tracks when sidescraping, it can still sidescrape fairly well; and sidescraping is far better than just driving out sideways, as enemies still have a chance to bounce off the very well angled upper side armour.
During battle, if you don’t have hard cover, constantly angle and wiggle the hull armour. It makes it harder to aim for weakpoints on the hull, and can sometimes bait enemies into only damaging the track, or bouncing off the hull’s auto-ricochet edges.
Overall the ST-62 just has standard medium tank gameplay. It has to focus more on using its armour and gun than its mobility, and use its limited gun depression where possible.
Tank gameplay:
Overall
Armour – 7/10
Gun – 7/10
Mobility – 5/10
Speed – 5.5/10
ST-62 Ver. 2 is overall a good tank.
Armour is good overall, with a fairly strong upper plate and a decent turret. Amour can be angled/sidescraped, and very usable in hulldown. HE protection is good, HESH protection is average. Armour is troll, not always reliable.
Gun has great gun handling with good accuracy, DPM, & alpha. Aim time is decent, penetration is mediocre, & gun depression is -6.
Mobility is decent, with an ok engine, decent acceleration, and good traverse speed. Reverse speed is average.
Speed is good at 53km/h.
Is it worth getting?
ST-62 isn’t really worth getting. It does have a unique trait, which is its funky and troll armour profile, however there are so many tier 8 tanks which share similar gameplay in tier 8, with many of those tanks having a less troll but more reliable armour profile. Tanks such as the Titan-54d, Type 59, or Obj. 274a.
This doesn’t mean that you should avoid the tank. Its weird armour profile with nice DPM do make it a fairly interesting tank, but its more reliant on being troll, rather than effective.
The ST-62 Ver. 2 is worth 6,500 gold. Its a good tank with some nice capabilities, mainly in its gun and armour profile, but it does also have fairly decent mobility. It’s not a tank for new players, as armour is not reliable, and gun depression isn’t great.
